When coaches leave or get fired, this happens a lot, especially if they don’t know or don’t like the replacement.

Just as a reminder… why did that rule go away? Remember all of the sick grandmothers and hate crimes? The hardship clause was getting invoked frivolously. I’m not disagreeing with you but the truth is that they’ll need to solve that issue if they put the rule back in place.
Why did Josh Belk leave Clemson? Why did Justin Fields leave UGA? So on and so forth…

All tha has to happen is for all p5 schools agree that they will not use the portal or accept any transfers from other schools. EASY easy. Dabo and the service Academies don't use the portal. Service academies by congressional rule. Dabo by choice. Nothing says any school has to take a transfer.

If the NCAA or any conference tried to apply that rule, the players would sue and the courts would throw that rule out immediately. This and almost ALL the other gripes about the current state of college football comes back to the same thing, almost any "rule" that restricts the players from earning money in the free market will lose in the courts immediately unless/until the players are made employees and these issues are collectively bargained. The people running the sport of college football are having to learn this lesson over and over again, but give them another 5-10 years and I'm sure they'll start to catch on.
