Best brewery, Russian River in Santa Rosa. They also have a new location where I have not been.

Anchor Brewing was at the forefront of the craft beer revolution, so I give it bonus points for historical value. The brewery is beautiful and the tour is top-notch.

Drake’s in San Leandro. Off 880. Not a lot of charm - more industrial, behind a shopping plaza but the site itself is cool and beers are very good

Wife and I went on a Napa/Sonoma wine tour a few years ago with a lunch stop in Sonoma. Our tour guide picked us up from our hotel in a 12 passenger van and that was the key to a great tour. With the small group, she was able to cater to our individual preferences. One of our stops was a small winery that was too small to handle large tour buses and we were the only group there. The owner/winer sat us at an outdoor picnic table and brought out each flavor one at a time as he explained everything he did to produce it before offering a gracious complementary sample. On the way back to San Francisco, we exited the highway on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge and drove up the hill to a perfect spot for pics with the bridge and city in the background. It was a pretty awesome day.

I recommend a visit to Healdsburg, just north of San Fran on the Russian River. Lovely town and terrific wineries.

Most of the breweries listed here are larger craft breweries with national distribution. If you want a great local craft brewery that you can’t get anywhere but California check out Cellarmaker Brewing in San Francisco.

Also if you like sour beers (usually they appeal to wine drinkers) Almanac Beer Co has a taproom in SF as well.

V Sattui Winery in St Helena. Amazing wine. Had a bourbon infused wine I brought back to Long Island that I saved for the National Title game we won 2 years ago.

Karl Strauss is a California only brewery that is amazing. Not sure if any in that area but it’s excellent beer. See if you can locate somewhere in the city.
