Well, we did it for 50+ years before there were divisions at all! It's fun to go 4-0 in the Tarhole state!

There's already seven teams in each division. Probably easier to just put ND in one and PSU in the other than to reorganize the whole deal.

4 games vs another division (rotational)
1 open game to be played vs corresponding team in another division (i.e SE1 vs NE1, SE2 vs NE2)
Winner of the 1 vs 1 games to ACC title.
Basically this is the model they were trying to lure Texas and the other Texas schools into the ACC with.

This probably would've produced an LSU-Bama rematch in the SEC championship last year.
But it could also force the only two undefeated teams from opposite sides of the conference to play each other in the open game before the championship game. That doesn't make much sense. Am I missing something?

Yeah, it probalby would have produced a rematch in the SEC title game rather than a rematch in the national title.
Both our our ACC title game appearances have been rematches so I'm not sure if you are stating that a problem with 4 divisions or not.
There may have been a procedure to seed the four division winners. If not, it wouldn't be difficult to do.
