May 26, 2012, 8:39 AM

1. bowl alliance with Big 12

Alphabetically speaking, Slive comes before Swofford***

Generally more serious about success and more aggressive.

More football oriented.

No doubt abt it. That's why I have long said that we belong in the SEC. Obviously that's not going to happen now but we can still join the Big and get right back in the thick of things. Stay in the ACC and we're forever doomed to mediocrity....those that deny this are living in fantasyland.

My 2 cents

In a word, Swofford .... but you have to put all the Presidents and AD's in that bucket too as they hired him. Culturally, there is a huge gap between the ACC and SEC from the academic side. Most ACC schools are small in comparison to the SEC schools so there is an "elitist" mentality that permeates the ACC. Plus, there are a lot of private schools, schools with medical, law, graduate study programs that see themselves as a cut above the masses. Arrogance is maybe too strong a word but probably not by much.

That is why Swofford is such a perfect fit... he is the model of what most ACC school Presidents, BOD, etc represent, a watered down Ivy League. That is why I despise the guy.

Clash of cultures, perspectives, whatever you want to call it.

My observation

May 26, 2012, 10:35 AM

Having a family member who has been in the administration of several SEC universities, here's what I've observed:

1) Mike Slive and his predecessor (Roy Kramer) are excellent CEOs. I suspect they would be successful running any corporation.

2) Yep I said corporation because that is one thing that every SEC President and AD understands: They are in the BUSINESS of college athletics. SEC football is their core competency and pays for everything else, and they take care of that business.

3) There is a sense of unity and purpose among SEC schools and fans that is simply missing in other conferences. Some of this comes from their historical bitter rivalry with the Big 10 and that conference's maneuvers to keep them locked out of the Rose Bowl for decades, and the rest comes from pride in their traditions and culture (CU fans can relate to the latter). For years I have advocated with my fellow Tigers that we need to embrace the other ACC schools and cheer them on to success when they're playing out-of-conference rehular season and bowl games, but most CU fans would rather laugh at a UNC loss to an SEC team than take pride in an ACC victory. I hope we can change our attitude when we get to the Big XII, but we are a stubborn lot...

to them, cheating is the way to success,to most of the acc

May 26, 2012, 10:46 AM

cheating is frowned upon.unc cheated, and was getting relevant.miami cheated and was trying to get back to the glory years of the "u".the acc tries to put on the mask of taking the high road, whereas the sec just figures that if you're not cheating, you're not trying hard enough.
