It’s his senior season at Indiana and he has 2 catches, way down their list of WR’s.
What happened with him, he did pretty good at the end of his rookie season.

The WR room evacuated Clemson once Tyler Grisham took charge

The RB room also left once CJ Spiller took charge
It's like the recruits that came to Clemson Football were no longer on the team they came to play for

just look at the Clemson WR unit today and compare. in hindsight, his decision to leave ruined his NFL career hopes. But I also understand why he wanted out.

Ajou Ajou has 2 catches for 9 yds at South Florida.
Ladson has 27 catches for 298 yds at Miami.
Collins has 3 catches for 45 yds at NC State.
EJ has 2 catches for 29 yds at Indiana.

And only Collins was recruited by TG. Ajou and Ladson were Jeff Scott, and EJ was Todd Bates.

it's confusing, although factual, also partially disproves a common narrative or at least the solution that typically follows. It asks more questions than it answers; please no more of this. I've developed a headache just complaining about it—health hazard as well

Ladson would be getting a lot of run here this year. His hands are questionable, but we could use a deep ball threat. *That said, he got $50k and a leased Charger, so maybe it was worth it to him.
*complete speculation

Why does it matter what they do elsewhere?

Shouldn't our coaching staff, which is among the highest paid in the country, be expected to take these 4- and 5-star recruits and develop them into productive players?
The fact that they haven't set the world on fire shows that their lack of production at Clemson wasn't simply due to a lack of playing time or being buried on the depth chart, but a result of poor development.
You can't expect their new coaches to overcome their stunted growth here.

Or maybe they are just not responding to coaching, here or elsewhere. But I’m sure that theory isn’t as much fun for you.

I assume you mean the level of play and not literally? In 2020 the only WR to leave was TJ Chase, in 2021 there were none, in 2022 there was Ajou and Ladson, and in early 2023 EJ.

The only RB transfer to have an decent amount of success at their new school is Chez Mellusi, and maybe Kobe Pace to an extent (a bit early to tell still; his snap-count has been trending down recently though).
Lyn-J Dixon & Mikey Dukes have both been arrested, and ultimately both have played for no less than 3 separate programs.
Demarkus Bowman is buried on the depth chart at UCF, much like he was during his time at Florida.
I think thats basically everyone w/ any amount of relevance that’s transferred out of Spiller’s RB room, correct?

My mistake - I assumed when South Florida said he’d be “suspended-indefinitely” following his domestic battery & aggravated strangulation arrest, what they meant to say was “best of luck finding a JUCOto play for”. Oops!

A lot of these guys get too many folks in their ears and wind up making poor decisions that hurt them in the long run. Particularly those who are kind of on the fence with talent and think they should be getting more reps elsewhere, or those who get convinced to enter the draft before they are really ready.
These are unfortunate casualties of the game that you really hate to see. Way too many people involved in these decisions when it should mostly be the student-athletes and their families.

As time passes they'll have more examples. I hope they begin to look at analytics from the portal transfers. A few may make a bigger impact but that's the exception more than the norm.

Folks who wanna declare for the draft get a pass from me as far as maybe jumping early when a year could benefit them. Many more reasons nowadays to declare vs coming back (injury risk being the biggest thing). NIL definitely helps making coming back for a star player easier but can't blame someone for wanting to be done with school and to start their professional career clock (whether that's being drafted, taking a chance as a UDFA signing, or just wanting to move on in life).
As for the TP, we definitely need some guard rails up. IDK if that's enforcing graduating first or a minimum commitment period (minus obvious unforeseen changes like a HC being fired/leaving) -- and also strong penalties for tampering (good luck with proving without a doubt obviously). Messy, messy deal that I hope has some clean up soon.

EJ had 24 receptions for 306 yards and 2 TDs with Trevor as a freshman.
9 receptions for 66 yards in 2021 and 7 receptions for 70 yards in 2022 with DJ.
I'm not saying he was right or wrong, but there was a reason he left.

Was he healthy and available for much of the ‘21 and ‘22 seasons? Honest question, I think he spent most of last year injured and unavailable. If he or Ngata had stayed for a healthy season with Cade at the helm I think there was a chance for better seasons. The drawback being that a talented Tyler Brown would be redshirting.

That was such a sports center top drawer catch. Had me excited. Who knows what may have been. Unless you're his family or bestie etc, we'll not know for sure what his ultimate decision to leave was.

He should not have stayed with us.
At Indiana, you cite him as having 2 receptions.
He wouldn’t have gotten more than that at Clemson. For a variety of reasons (coaching was not one of those reasons) he just wasn’t very good.

Indiana isn't playing them because they're trying very hard to teach people the value of not portaling. EJ's just got to learn his lesson.

Many of our transfers should have stayed.
Only a few of them actually made sense and have gone on to greater opportunity and success.

Those that got more opportunity that they ever would have gotten at Clemson:
Darnell Jeffries and Nyles Pinckney at Minnesota Richard Yeargin at Boston College - great story and very happy for him Taisun Phommachanh - at Massachusetts and Georgia Tech Jordan Williams at Virginia Tech - on the Miami Dolphins Chez Mellusi at Wisconsin Chase Brice - Duke and App State
Didn't get more opportunity, just more of the same after a bad attitude:
Derion Kendrick - starting CB for National Championship at UGA
Of the dozens that have transferred out, these are the few that I recall that found some green grass with less talent in front of them on the depth chart. There are four NFL caliber Defensive Lineman on my fist list that were caught in the logjam that is DLU. Not enough snaps to go around for all of the studs in that room.

The players who left Clemson for the most part haven't been productive. What worries me is the Clemson coaches poor evaluation of these players. The number of players who are misses seem to be going up. The last class however seems to be full of studs. Hopefully the upward trend from last year continues.
