Why does a guy like Dawes transfer?

This is what I don't get about the portal. I understand if a kid is not getting enough playing time, or is not being utilized, or just realized they made a mistake and want to move on, or in response to a coaching change, etc., but with Dawes, none of it makes sense. He was a starter here, and would be a starter next year. He was a huge part of our team, and would have been an important leader next season. He's got 3 years invested here in friends and relationships and an education and Clemson culture. And now, with one more year to go, he "transfers out"? This should be the best year of his college career, right here at Clemson.
Help me understand.

but I do know we have not had many guys who were guaranteed starters transfer out, and few if any who were entering their senior year.
Dawes never was a natural PG, and he was undersized as a 2G. But he was a starter most of his 3 years here. Puts us in a pretty desperate position honestly.

Too many ideas what cause is. Might be a personal situation where he wants to be closer to home, or outlook to season from coaching here, or something else.

Yeah, Dawes is a weird and disappointing one.
Him and prosper are probably the only transfers of consequence under brownell.
I have heard from several different people that the seton hall rumor is legit. Doubt we will never know for sure though.

100%! To these guys, it’s not all about the winning. It’s also about the culture, the coaching philosophy, coaching techniques, the team chemistry, and other lesser things, but one thing seems very clear. Brad Brownell doesn’t seem to be “The Guy” who can put it all together and create a team ,and a culture, that wants to be “ALL IN”. Get that guy, another Dabo , and it gets fixed. The chemistry needed to attract that guy who can attract that team is the missing link. Brad Brownell isn’t him!

dawes has a child in NJ. sure that was a part. close to the new coach at seton hall and a guy who will prob transfer there. and .. perhaps he knew we're bringing in a PG from the portal who would take a lot of his minutes.

In Dawes case, he will be close to home and in a league he has a chance to be a star in, which he does not at Clemson.

I understand that he has a 4-5 year old kid in NJ and wants to spend more time with him plus he is very close to the new Seton Hall coach who they hired from St. Peters...this explains a lot.

Not sure about his situation. In most cases it's playing time or they are getting paid to go somewhere else. NIL and the portal are for real.
