Why all the excitement over Galloway?...
Dec 15, 2019, 9:29 PM

I keep seeing threads celebrating the return of Galloway as if he is some kind of offensive juggernaut. Looked up his stats for last year. Are you ready?
5 receptions for 52 yards and 1 TD. That averages out to .38 receptions per game for 4 yards per game and 1/13 of a TD per game. I don’t think that kind of production will have much of an effect against OSU or LSU.
Glad to have a player back, but don’t think it makes much of a difference.

Because he also plays basketball. Football players that also play basketball are great football players. I.e. Deshaun Watson, Tee Higgins, Justin Ross, etc. etc.

On scout team this year. Coach Swinney said he has been working hard but I’m not expecting him to be some secret weapon.
I remember him having a drop when he was wide open but he didn’t get a lot of PT or targets as a freshman.
My expectations are he will play some but we will see a lot of Chalk

Why not be excited over having a starter return. We're not expecting him to be Tony Gonzalez.

1. He was a true freshman last year in an offensive system that values understanding of complex blocking and passing schemes. 2. Go back and watch those 5 catches. You’ll see why people are excited to see him touch the field with another year of experience under his belt.

I actually don't expect him to be a secret weapon but he is a bit of a secret. I could be wrong because Caulk seems to blend in a lot but we haven't used our TE's much after the first few games where the young guys showed they needed some work. It will make tOSU guess quite a bit and adds a new dimension to our offense.
I believe most people expected him to be our starter so they are excited to have a fresh starter back that has hopefully been packing on the pounds all season.

He is big and he can block. He has matured from being on the scout team. Have faith in his coach that he is the real deal.

He at least brings the threat of going downfield. I don't think I've seen Chalk or Price more than 10 yards downfield.

I'm glad those 7-Eleven Warriors aren't taking this Galloway talk serious since TNet isn't.

I think you have it right T3Tiger. We’ve kind of been in a vicious circle with our TE play/recruiting since Leggett left.

Crazy notion, but between S&C, and a year of practice and growth, maybe he got better between freshman and sophomore years. I hear some players do. Ok, forgive the snark, but seriously, any talented player we have in our arsenal is a bonus.

hmmm...best offense in the country with a glaring weakness, a TE that can catch. As we head into the playoffs we significantly upgrade the position. You're right, why the optimism???

Considering that we’ve thrown to our TEs for a grand total of 24 times all season in 2019, and JC Chalk had the most of those at 13 receptions for just 60 yards... I’d say getting back a player who DOUBLES Chalk’s average YPC certainly qualifies as an upgrade worthy of excitement.

You do realize he played behind a Senior last year, right? You aren't going to find much stats when he wasn't playing as a starter, and the 2nd string guy was Garrett Williams which we used for blocking.

Regardless if you think Chase Young deserved Heisman votes or not, he is a legit DE threat. Its always nice to have a quick TE with size to help limit his disruption of our offense. Plus some of those underneath routes and TE screens that have fallen apart or just plain disappeared could be back in play.
Or even if OSU THINKS those things are back in play.
But mainly, the kid has been sidelined, not of his own doing, and finally gets to come back and play. Yay for him.

I think his contribution will be blocking Young. If he does that, then their most effective defensive player will be neutralized.

Looking at the video, you can tell that Galloway is an athlete. At the very least, it's valuable to have another legit YAC option to dump the football to if Chase Young does force a hurry. As it stands now, our tight ends aren't big threats to advance the ball. He's no secret weapon (is a TE ever a secret weapon?), but he won't be used only to block Young.

1. He was a freshman last year. 2. He didn’t get many snaps last year but when he did play looked very athletic and fluid compared to all the other TEs. 3. He couldn’t play any worse than what we’ve gotten from the TE position so far this year.
