Can't remember. If Brownell, what did he do recruiting KJ that hasn't appeared to happen since?

Who coached KJ?

I doubt it matters who recruited him, nobody else did, that's why he came here. We were his only ACC offer I believe. Maybe Brownell should start recruiting guys with no other ACC offers.

That's pretty much the case and it always has been ...

... seldom, if ever do we sign a guy who had legitimate offers from upper-tier ACC programs.
I don't believe anyone we've had in the past 10 years has been pursued actively by UNC, Duke, NC State or even Wake.
Guys like Booker, KJ, Blossomgame, Grantham, etc., etc. were not offered by Tobacco Road schools.
These are they guys we've always done best with ... guys who want to play in the ACC, but have no other avenue than Clemson.
The problem is that they generally need to be in the program a couple of years to get up to speed and to be able to play at a high level.
We appear to be on one of those periods now. We'll need to be patient. And why shouldn't we? It's Clemson hoops after all.

"Just recruit better players", like Brownell hasn't thought of that already. Maybe he likes the challenge of recruiting less than ACC caliber players and spending 4 years coaching them up to maybe beat UNC in Chapel Hill; or maybe he realizes that recruiting a bunch of McDonald's All-Americans would be a waste of time when he could be spending more time recruiting players he can actually bring to Clemson.
Remember the last MAA player we got? How'd that work out.

Grantham is better than KJ

As a freshman.
Understand where Clemson is in the pecking order of the basketball universe and get a grip. He is steadily recruiting better and will build a solid program. This conference is brutally tough but he will get us consistently in the middle of the pack, which is all we should expect out of our basketball program for the near future.
It is not going to be a banner year for the basketball team but let's not trash them 7 games into the season.

That's about as low as it gets. I agree that Grantham is better as a freshman, but KJ is just a freak of nature, and Grantham just doesn't have that sort of raw talent to work with. He'll be a solid player, but I don't think he gets close to KJ by the end of his career. We need a team of Grantham's to compete in the ACC.
