Everyone talks about Les' bad playcalling at the end

Jul 27, 2013, 5:50 PM

I don't get it. I thought it was good play calling, considering we stopped the run the whole game. In fact, if Mettenberger hadn't overthrown that 2nd and 2 pass he had the reciever wide open. Good call, BAD execution.

I also think our improved pass rush had something to do with the poor execution. Amazing what pressuring a qb can do!

You know you've raised a real tiger fan when you ask your son what he wants his cub scout pinewood derby car to be and he says a Tiger!

Listening to the announcers I got pissed off again. You would have thought we were losing by 30.

well, he could have run the ball three times, still yielded a three and out, but we would have had no time outs left with less clock.

so there is that.

The pass call on 2nd down was beyond stupid. Sure it almost

Jul 27, 2013, 6:13 PM

worked, but a lot of stupid calls end up working.

You've absolutely got to run the ball in that situation. Especially when you're LSU and you've got a struggling QB.

Absolutely insane playcall IMO.

Easy call after the results. What about the 8-yarder on 1st?***

I think the thinking is

After the 'gamble' on first you've shown your willingness to pass (and are clearly going for a first down to end the game). Thus Clemson had to respect the idea of the pass and you have 2 downs to get two yards on runs AND keep the clock running/force Clemson to take a TO. I didn't fault him for the second down call, but I do think 2 running plays would've been wiser. And a draw on third down (after the failed 2nd down call seemed the best play to me. But I'm not making big dollars calling plays.

It would've forced us to burn our timeouts***

It's real simple. He wanted to close the game out. It didn't

Jul 27, 2013, 7:27 PM

WORK! GA game is 8/31 for all you geniuses. Let's hear your calls. I've made mine. Clemson by 10+ and our D front 7 has a 'coming out' partay. The woulda, coulda, shoulda from last year is COMPLETELY irrelevant unless you're applying for Miles' job at LSU.

The annoucer says passing on 1st down was a good decision and from then on Les is an idiot in his mind. This SEC bias crap has gotten waaaaaayyy outta had. We beat them. No matter what excuses the world makes for them.

It has NOTHING to do with stopping the RUN. NOTHING. It was the TIME that the clock was going to use on each play. Three run plays would have used most of the clock left for our possession - OR - CLEMSON could use all 3 of our timeouts left - EITHER choice would have killed our chances to score. I mean DEAD. A dumbazz could have figured that out, and Les and his OC were complete idiots. PERIOD.

Let's face it......this was not the mad hatter's debut at clock mismanagement toward the end of a game.
