Where is the FAMILY?

May 27, 2012, 9:26 PM

It sure is nice to come on here and see Clemson fans throwing a new member of the Clemson family under the bus because they are making points (that are very valid, btw) that go against moving to the Big 12. It is obviously your right to state your opinion, but you are talking to a Clemson recruit's parents here...they're just as much a part of the family atmosphere as you are.

Have you realized that the ACC has consistently been putting just as many (if not more) players into the NFL as conferences like the SEC/Big 12 for a while now?

I'll probably get downvoted to hell just for posting this post, but I don't care (not like it hasn't been done to me before already...). Show some respect, people!

To whoever the parents are that did that interview: As a student at Clemson, I would like to welcome you to the Clemson family. Hopefully your time here on this board will not tarnish your view on what truly is, in my opinion, the best place to go to school one could ever ask for.

Actually I have a degree from Clemson and I consider

May 27, 2012, 9:39 PM

myself and any other alums to have more of a vested interest in the the university's future than a parent of a recruit unless he or she is an alum.

Still a member of the family...

And, I totally believe them when they say that recruiting would take a hit. It validates my thought about traveling to games. If the parents who have a pretty big incentive to go to the games can't make the games, then it's likely that fewer fans will be able to go, too. Our fan base will look more like BC's (although still probably better, but it doesn't take much to beat 5 fans...) than what it looks like now when we go to away games if we move to the Big 12. Our traveling fan base is HUGE for us in recruiting. As Dabo says, it all starts with recruiting, and if we take a hit on the recruiting front, that means less chances of winning. Wasn't more chances of winning (b/c of having more money) supposedly why we would move to the Big 12 anyway? We were ranked as high as 5th in the nation last year. If we had actually finished off the year like we started, we would easily be in the 4 team playoff. Staying in the ACC will not make us lose our seat at the table.

Also, as I said, I am a student at Clemson. I definitely have a vested interest in the welfare of my school. I'd also venture to say that, as parents of a Clemson recruit, they also have a vested interest in wanting Clemson to "keep its seat at the table."

My opinion is that we should stay in the ACC. The only reason we should leave is if we somehow get a shot at the SEC, which has 1) more money and 2) would be much less of a problem for recruits' families to see games and even better 3) would give us more clout in our current recruiting base along the southeast that would actually make much more impact on how well we compete.

Please people. Every fan has to realize in even numbered

May 27, 2012, 11:15 PM

years our current ACC road games include BC, FSU, and only one guaranteed school in NC, and that is Wake Forest.

In odd numbered seasons, we play at Maryland, and our one guaranteed school from NC, NC State. We also play Ga Tech, who is also a likely addition to the Big 12.

In 2004, we played at Texas A&M, at FSU, at Miami, and at UVA. Nobody complained about the travel.

If the Big 12 goes to 16 schools, which is where it is eventually headed, the likely group of additions will come from Clemson, FSU, West Virgina, Pitt, ND, Ga Tech, Louisville, and Miami. Of those, three are current ACC opponents (Ga Tech, Miami, FSU). Pitt is not that much further away than a Maryland trip, neither is Louisville or West Virginia.

All we are missing are those "fan favorite" trips to any of four NC schools. Again, there is only "one" of those guaranteed each year, Wake in even numbered years, NC State in odd numbered years.

2004? you had to go back 8 years to find something that fit?

May 28, 2012, 9:38 AM

you don't see a problem with that?

and your hypotheticals are, well, hypotheticals.

Its up front (Dline and Oline) where the ACC fails to live

May 27, 2012, 9:43 PM

Up to the talent on SEC and BIG XII. skill players is pretty even but the game is won in the trenches.

This is not a Clemson sponsored website.

May 27, 2012, 9:47 PM

If they are stupid enough to judge Clemson by something interwebs post they probably aren't Clemson worthy anyway.

Re: This is not a Clemson sponsored website.

It may not be an official Clemson site, but it is full of Clemson fans.

I honestly don't see your point here. The Clemson brand is as much the people that represent the school as it is the official Clemson logo, website, Nike gear, etc.

I take pride in the fact that Clemson has been known to have a very welcoming fan base. Clemson doesn't sponsor us as official fans of Clemson, but fans of other schools remember Clemson more for its people than for its official web site or facilities or anything like that.

lol.but fans of other schools remember Clemson more for its people than for its official web site or facilities or anything like that.

Go to some of the acc schools' fan web sites and see how much respect we as fans are getting now. And my degree and decades of attending games all over the ACC to support CU and my monetary contributions to the University for decades trump some parent of some kid who may or may not attend CU and may or may not do anything more while here than ride the pine. The parent offered his opinion. So what? Doesn't mean it is any better than any other opinion offered on this board. Get over it. You offer an opinion on a hotly debated subject that have a lot of passionate fans on both sides of the issue, you can expect to generate opposing opinions and even hostility from some.

You state your credentials as if you are sure yours "trump"

May 27, 2012, 11:06 PM

those of the recruit's parents (as if it matters here). What if these particular parents have twice the degrees from Clemson as you, have donated more money, and their committed son is one of the 4-stars on our list for next year who may be destined to be a Ring of Honor player and never "ride the pine". It won't hurt to stay away from all the personal attacks..... it just might lose a 4-star recruit if we don't. And this one might just be the first of many if they read how split our fanbase appears to be based on what can be seen here. I don't see many of the usual coots posting to stir up trouble - they are just sitting back, reading our own posts, and enjoying what they read.

Yeah, we are a family, and families disagree...

May 27, 2012, 11:54 PM

Family isn't about unison and lockstep thoughts and actions. It's about heart.

We all want what's best for Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

exactly. my brother and i fight like cats and dogs

May 28, 2012, 9:29 AM

but let anyone else join the fray, and they got 2 against 1. just 'cause we disagree doesn't mean we're not united.
