Clemson Football Games

I tried to make a poll but I couldn't for whatever reason, so I will just ask. Would you rather watch your Clemson football games on TV at home or would you prefer to go to the games? For this question, pretend that you live within 5 hours of Clemson.

When I was able to make those trips, being a fan in the stands was what I preferred 100 times over the TV. Fans in the stands not only see and hear the game, they feel the game and all the excitement of the game and we feed off the excitement of the thousands of fans all around you doing and feeling the same as you. I miss it, but I also value the memories of a lot of magical moments and great times I've shared with other Tiger fans over my years of being at and in DV. When I now see the fans in the stands from watching on TV, I still know what they are feeling when it's a close tight game, or when we are whopping A$S, and those feelings don't exist if you've never been in DV while playing a high level, high profile team, you have to be there to know those feelingsssss!!!!

I love watching all the games at home. I love my great TV and set-up and just watching everyone go nuts on TV. I have never been a person for crowds though either. I don't like concerts or festivals either though. Anyway, I just love going to my family room, getting the surround sound, 70in tv on, grilling out, and maybe having a friend or two watch it. I am happy to just be on Tnet and watch the game on TV alone too. I am thankful so many of you pack the stadium though.

Personally I have never been an IPTAY member, that is only bc I couldn't afford IPTAY and the price for a Ticket. When the scalpers were allowed to sell close to the stadium, you could walk around looking at all the Tics for sale and pick where you wanted to sit in the stadium. But when that was stopped, I had to catch them strung out all down the sides of the road, and I would buy the first descent pair of tics I come to, and the scalpers knew and understood that, and we would never see the best tics until they had sold all their nose bleed or corner tics. But there was this older white haired Black man about 60-65 years old that I bought most all of the scalper tics I've bought through the years, I would call him at his home on Friday to let him know I was coming on Saturday, and he always had me some great tics. I would pay him face value plus a 20 dollar tip, and he always looked after me and my friends when they went, but I have been to most games by my self over about 35 years, and it was never less than 4 games a season until after my back injury, and since then it to 2 maybe 3 games a season until the past 5-6 years it has been zero bc I'm just not able to make them long drives by my self any more but, I miss being in DV as bad as I would my best girl leaving.
My wife just bought her self a 2018 Honda CR V Touring package/model with I think it has a 12 way lumbar drivers seat that I may have to borrow to make a game this season. I know that the CR V is an awesome ride, it rides a 100 times better than my 2004 GMC truck, and our 2010 Corolla, but for $32K it should ride like it's on a cloud!!! Gooooo Tigersssss, and my preference is in side DV any day over the TV!!!
P/S Maybe with me not being able to go to the games the way I use to, I may send them a few bucks just so I can get the IPTAY decal for these coots to see on my vehicles here in cootlumbia!!!

Agree with GeeVille Tiger. I previously lived about two hours away and went every time a family of four had someone that couldn't go. (Sometimes it was scrub games like Wofford; once I saw USuC.)
Outside of two hours and it's tough, mostly because you're going to add another hour or two to that drive home. Not really a problem during a noon or 3:30 kick, but those 8 o'clock starts and national TV are killers.

My wife and I are selective regarding actual attendance in the Valley. We go to a game a year if the budget and circumstances allow. I am aiming to retire later this year and the cost of driving, tickets, food and time spent in traffic all make for a long day and an expensive trip. Watching on TV has become our means of following Tiger football for the majority of games, home and away. Personally I wish senior citizens would be given a discount on tickets and specific lower level seating on a first come/first serve basis, but money makes the whole experience possible!
Go Tigers!

To the stadium from my house in cootlumbia is about 3 and a half hours one way. It's 7 hours of driving for me for one game!!! That is tough for an Older man that has had 4 major back surgeries, and one spinal cord stimulator installed, I promise you!!!

Always love watching in person. 2 hour drive home can be brutal though, but the thought of getting home to watch the game again on TV gets me through it.

I'm at the game every time! Tv isn't bad for away games, but there just is no substitute for being in the valley with a rocking crowd.

If I lived that CLOSE to the University, I swear I would be at every FB Basketbal and BB game at Clemson. They would know me by my first middle and last name if I had of been as lucky as you that your life didn't take you no further away from Clemson than 10 miles. And you are right, there isn't a substitute for being in DV at game time. Give me inside Death Valley any time over the TV. I would bet that all saying TV is their choice, if they were only 10 miles away, they wouldn't be saying that bc they would be in DV over the TV!!!!

When I was in my 20s and 30s, I wanted to go to every game no matter what. But in my 40s I've pretty much written off going to night games due to how long it takes me to get out of Clemson and get home (I live outside of Atlanta). I'll still make some big night games (like ND a few years ago and Louisville or FSU).
And, I've found that I'd rather stay home on less competitive games so that I can watch Clemson on TV and catch all of the other great games on that day.

I am 79 years old and have health problems that make negotiating the stadium very difficult, so I vote for TV at home. But I am clearly a special case. Younger & healthier .... I would be there.

Well Sir, I'm with you, I vote for TV - same reasons though. Radio for the other sports. I'm a "bit" behind you in age but we went from 63 - 04, every home game and quite a few away games. I live in cootlumbia so driving, wife's stroke and $$$ prevented us from continuing.

There's no comparison. Been tailgating with old roommates and expanding families for 35 years. Being in the stadium atmosphere with 80k like minded rabid fans. No biased TV commentary. Pummeling the life out of opposing fans and throwing their lifeless carcasses off the upper deck. Tigers win, back to the tailgate for some snacks, riding home listening to post game radio for Clemson or coots when they lose. Let's go!!!

Well, I've been going to the games here in Clemson since 1955 and I still go to the home games. My first home was less than a mile from the stadium, second home was about two miles and now I'm about three miles. Going to the games does not bother me but I do not watch a game on TV or listen on the radio because I get too uptight. I've talked with others who have the same problem.

By my Calculation you will be on your 14th house by then and 2 hrs away..plus or minus a couple years.

I have a hard time watching on TV. So I retreat to my office and listen on the radio. I run down the hall to see replays as needed! Funny that I can take losing a whole lot better watching in person than watching on TV.

All of the distant lots we've been in have a shuttle. Y Beach has a shuttle and I believe still has public parking on gameday.

Honestly it depends on the game, I lived in Charleston for the past three seasons and made it to every big game and Labor Day weekend game, but otherwise I just didn’t think it was worth it when I could grill and drink at my house. Now that I live in the upstate I’ll probably go to most of the games.

we're going to the game. The only ones I'll skip are SC State, Citadel type games, and even then if there's not another big game I want to catch I still might go.

I enjoyed games a lot more when it wasn't $200+ a ticket and then $200+ for hotel. Being at the game is an experience you'll never forget, you feel the passion and emotion of the crowd and the game with all focus on the game. At home your wallet hurts a lot less (and you can drink through the game) but money aside there's nothing comparable between the two. Tailgating and being at the game is 100x more fun and a memory that'll last forever.
