Here we go again

Aug 12, 2021, 5:50 PM

York County's target covid+ rate has always been set at 10%. Got a covid report from White Oak Manor (my Mom's house) and they have shut down visitation due to an employee testing +. York County's + rate has went up over 6% in 4 weeks, from 10.2% to 16.6%. I hope Mom is as tough this time as last. She was covid+ and was isolated for 5 weeks but never had to go on a vent. I will tell her my Tiger Brothers are praying for her.

The numbers are only up because Covid was almost gone. The numbers were super low. This is basic math and statistics. Yes the numbers are going up but they are nowhere close to where they were, this is just more fear and hysteria by the Democrats and by the media. This is politicians wanting to exert more control which has already been proven not to work! Because the science is sketchy at best on wearing a mask and even Fauci will admit they only work in certain situations and social distancing doesn’t work and lockdowns don’t work. Anyone that doesn’t see that this doesn’t work is stupid. And I don’t care if you’re a doctor or work at a hospital or not. You are not following the science! You are not following the data. Lots of doctors are stupid and wrong. Doctors like anything else 10 to 20% are incompetent and bad. You are doing like so many other people on this board have done, which is let your personal experience cloud your emotions rather than looking at the real data and the real numbers. You know, that thing called science!

Actually I understand the science and if you pay attention to my postings and the videos I post with legitimate journalists and legitimate scientists that are experts in the field you would know that I probably know about as much on Tigernet anybody about this stuff. I also understand statistical analysis. I also know there are tons of people on the left that are pushing back against this ########. People on the left pushing back about the vaccines and their safety. People on the left pushing back about mask mandates and lockdowns! People like you think this is all white Trump supporter thing. The reality is the least vaccinated groups in America are blacks and Hispanics.

Not being oppressed? Are you ####### kidding me? You do understand that insanity around Covid by the Democrats crushed the American economy? That we have had the biggest transfer of wealth in America history over the last 18 months?

That depression and suicide are way up especially among children? That drug addiction and alcoholism are way up. Huge increase in anxiety and mental disorders.

People like you are beyond ignorant!

The irrational reaction to Covid has been devastating to the American economy and the American people that you say you have sympathy for. But you don’t have sympathy. If you did have sympathy you would understand how the lockdown has been more devastating than the virus.

I always think it’s hilarious the people on here talking about oh my god so many people have died. Three times as many people die in America every year from heart disease which can be prevented. The American government by way of legislation, the food pyramid, and other activities promotes terrible health. Not only does that greatly affect the number of people that die every year but it also has huge economic and healthcare implications.

The government promotes a diet that is completely backwards. Where is your sympathy for the growing amount of obesity and diabetes in America? That’s because of all the processed food, HFCS, all the processed flour and other carbohydrates in our diet. All things being promoted by the federal government. Soybeans and other seed oils promoted by the government which leads to huge impacts on the body’s levels of inflammation which is one of the biggest creators of heart disease, cancer, and many other diseases.

God people like you think you have sympathy and think you know science when you are in fact beyond ignorant!

And by the way if our government actually did promote good health and a proper diet the vast majority of people that died from Covid would be alive today. Because the same things that cause heart disease and cancer by way of our diet are the same things that create metabolic syndrome which includes obesity and diabetes and high levels of inflammation in our bodies. Those are people dying from Covid. Not children. Not middle-age healthy people. Not athletes.

The average daily numbers of new cases are currently 45%, and rapidly rising, of the highest daily average back in late January-early February of this year. The Delta is much more infectious than the initial virus and is hitting the younger people more so than earlier.
Those so called "bureaucrats" are not sitting in some isolated closet thinking up ways to oppress and control us. They are backed up by competent scientific and medical support. I have worked in the private sector, the academic sector, government sector, military, and owned my own business. It is my experience that the distribution between the smart motivated individuals and the average and less smart work-shy individuals is pretty much the same in each of those sectors.

Covid was almost gone. Of course the percentages look higher. But the case numbers are nowhere near where they were at any period. The case numbers are small compared to the highs of the pandemic. Yes it may be more infectious but it’s not more deadly. Not only that we know the PCR test is an absolute joke. If you don’t have symptoms you are not sick. If your PCR test took more than about 25 or 28 cycles you are not sick. Even the inventors of PCR, experts in PCR testing, say that a Covid test should not be used for a diagnosis. They say that if someone does not have symptoms they should not be getting tested. So rather than preach at me you go learn the science because you are the one that doesn’t know it.

stem the tide of this virus but at the end of the day a virus is going to do what a virus is gonna do. There's a good article in the NY Times titled "Covid is more mysterious than we often admit" by By David Leonhardt that is worth a read:

New York Times – The Morning

July 30, 2021

By David Leonhardt

Good morning. Covid is more mysterious than we often admit.

NOT IN CONTROL

Consider these Covid-19 mysteries:

· In India — where the Delta variant was first identified and caused a huge outbreak — cases have plunged over the past two months. A similar drop may now be underway in Britain. There is no clear explanation for these declines.

· In the U.S., cases started falling rapidly in early January. The decline began before vaccination was widespread and did not follow any evident changes in Americans’ Covid attitudes.

· In March and April, the Alpha variant helped cause a sharp rise in cases in the upper Midwest and Canada. That outbreak seemed poised to spread to the rest of North America — but did not.

· This spring, caseloads were not consistently higher in parts of the U.S. that had relaxed masking and social distancing measures (like Florida and Texas) than in regions that remained vigilant.

· Large parts of Africa and Asia still have not experienced outbreaks as big as those in Europe, North America and South America.

How do we solve these mysteries? Michael Osterholm, who runs an infectious disease research center at the University of Minnesota, suggests that people keep in mind one overriding idea: humility.

“We’ve ascribed far too much human authority over the virus,” he told me.
‘Much, much milder’

Over the course of this pandemic, I have found one of my early assumptions especially hard to shake. It’s one that many other people seem to share — namely, that a virus always keeps spreading, eventually infecting almost the entire population, unless human beings take actions to stop it. And this idea does have crucial aspects of truth. Social distancing and especially vaccination can save lives.

But much of the ebb and flow of a pandemic cannot be explained by changes in human behavior. That was true with influenza a century ago, and it is true with Covid now. An outbreak often fizzles mysteriously, like a forest fire that fails to jump from one patch of trees to another.

The experience with Alpha in the Midwest this spring is telling:

Even Osterholm said that he had assumed the spring surge would spread from Michigan and his home state of Minnesota to the entire U.S. It did not. It barely spread to nearby Iowa and Ohio. Whatever the reasons, the pattern shows that the mental model many of us have — in which only human intervention can have a major effect on caseloads — is wrong.

Britain has become another example. The Delta variant is even more contagious than Alpha, and it seemed as though it might infect every unvaccinated British resident after it began spreading in May. Some experts predicted that the number of daily cases would hit 200,000, more than three times the country’s previous peak. Instead, cases peaked — for now — around 47,000, before falling below 30,000 this week.

“The current Delta wave in the U.K. is turning out to be much, much milder than we anticipated,” wrote David Mackie, J.P. Morgan’s chief European economist.

True, you can find plenty of supposed explanations, including the end of the European soccer tournament, the timing of school vacations and the Britain’s notoriously late-arriving summer weather, as Mark Landler, The Times’s London bureau chief, has noted. But none of the explanations seem nearly big enough to explain the decline, especially when you consider that India has also experienced a boom and bust in caseloads. India, of course, did not play in Europe’s soccer championship and is not known for cool June weather.
‘Rip through’

A more plausible explanation appears to be that Delta spreads very quickly at first and, for some unknown set of reasons, peters out long before a society has reached herd immunity. As Andy Slavitt, a former Covid adviser to President Biden, told me, “It seems to rip through really fast and infect the people it’s going to infect.” The most counterintuitive idea here is that an outbreak can fade even though many people remain vulnerable to Covid.

That’s not guaranteed to happen everywhere, and there probably will be more variants after Delta. Remember: Covid behaves in mysterious ways. But Americans should not assume that Delta is destined to cause months of rising caseloads. Nor should they assume that a sudden decline, if one starts this summer, fits a tidy narrative that attributes the turnaround to rising vaccination and mask wearing.

“These surges have little to do with what humans do,” Osterholm argues. “Only recently, with vaccines, have we begun to have a real impact.
No need for nihilism

I don’t want anyone to think that Osterholm is making a nihilist argument. Human responses do make a difference: Masks and social distancing can slow the spread of the virus, and vaccination can end a pandemic.

The most important step has been the vaccination of many older people. As a result, total British deaths have risen only modestly this summer, while deaths and hospitalizations remain rarer in heavily vaccinated parts of the U.S. than in less vaccinated ones.

But Osterholm’s plea for humility does have policy implications. It argues for prioritizing vaccination over every other strategy. It also reminds us to avoid believing that we can always know which behaviors create risks.

That lesson has particular relevance to schools. Many of the Covid rules that school districts are enacting seem overly confident about what matters, Osterholm told me. Ventilation seems helpful, and masking children may be. Yet reopening schools unavoidably involves risk. The alternative — months more of lost learning and social isolation — almost certainly involves more risk and greater costs to children. Fortunately, school employees and teenagers can be vaccinated, and severe childhood Covid remains extremely rare.

We are certainly not powerless in the face of Covid. We can reduce its risks, just as we can reduce the risks from driving, biking, swimming and many other everyday activities. But we cannot eliminate them. “We’re not in nearly as much control as we think are,” Osterholm said.

Re: Here we go again

Aug 13, 2021, 10:21 AM

First, I hope your mom is going to be OK.

Second, The person that took the positive test do they have symptoms?

Because a positive test does not mean you have Covid. In fact it’s not a good test to randomly take. It does not test for Covid. And if you understand how the PCR test works then you understand it does not mean someone actually has Covid.

These people are not following the science. And they don’t understand how the PCR works.

Also, you would not be infected for five weeks. Typically within a week or two the actual virus is gone. She was not positive for five weeks. The PCR test if that’s what they were using was picking up on other things in her system that were there residually from her infection. The PCR test can show positive sometimes for several months despite the fact that the disease was only living and active for maybe a week or two.

All of this mask and testing stuff is total freaking nonsense. Actual doctors and scientists are not making these rules and regulations. It’s government bureaucrats. In California in particular LA County the person that has been making all the rules is a hospital administrator. She has absolutely no medical training. She’s a bureaucrat. All of these people making these decisions are bureaucrats. There is very little science going on.

5 to 10 years from now politicians especially Democrats and the media are not going to look very good when the truth comes out and there’s more perspective. Covid is real and Covid is serious. But it is nowhere nearly as deadly as they have led people to believe and things like wearing a mask in most situations and social distancing and lockdowns are not effective.

I know people don’t like this and think I’m crazy but if you look at the science if you look at the data if you look at how things like a PCR test works if you understand how viruses work if you look at what has happened in the past including the last 20 years where we have had numerous serious viruses that actually have a higher mortality rate than Covid. You will recognize that everything we’ve been doing for the past 18 months is stupid and counterproductive. It is also unconstitutional and has destroyed millions of lives by way of depression drug addiction peoples medical conditions going unchecked not to mention the number of people especially kids that have committed suicide and the number of businesses and lives that have been destroyed!

The cure, which was never a cure, has been worse than the disease. People on the left need to wake up. This has been pure politics. This has been about money, power and control!

Re: Whenever I hear someone say "wake up" I know I'm dealing

You are the fool and the idiot. We are not being led by science. We are not being led by data. If you believe that you are beyond stupid. California especially LA County is passing policies at the direction of someone that is an administrator. A bureaucrat. Not doctors and not researchers.

And I’m sorry but this sympathy for my fellow man. Millions of people die every year. If you have sympathy for people you don’t know and that breaks your heart and upsets you you might want to get your head examined. A real pandemic kills entire chunks of the population. Covid has killed less than 1/2 of 1% of the American population. That is not a true pandemic when put into historical context. And most of those people died because of their own personal diet and personal lifestyle choices. Choices in many ways difficult for them to control because Government policy.

The reality is very few people are actually dying from Covid. Old people with a weak immune system and people that have issues with obesity and diabetes better known as part of metabolic syndrome are the ones dying of Covid. Healthy people are not dying of Covid. Children under the age of 25 or not dying of Covid. Go look at the numbers.

I have a BS in finance from Clemson and an MBA. I know how to do statistical analysis. I’m smart enough to read medical reports and see interviews with experts and understand the science. I have also talked to numerous medical experts personally including one of the top infectious disease doctors in South Carolina.

I think it’s hilarious that you think that you know me. You don’t know anything about me and my level of expertise in the medical field. If you did you would realize how stupid you are.

And I love people like you always talking about how dumb and ignorant and stupid I am but you never post any facts. I repeatedly post videos with experts, factual data, list names of people even on the left that people on this board should watch for political and scientific information. My opinions are formulated by way of facts and data. People like you were just spouting more government ########. People like you never post any real data that counters anything me or other people like me have actually posted.

I always know people are fools and stupid and brainwashed when they try and attack me or attack my credibility rather than posting anything factual or relevant.

The quickest way to know whether a defense attorney has a guilty client is by looking at how they defend the client. When all they do is attack the witnesses and the credibility of the evidence you know their client is guilty.

Typical liberal response. Attack the person because you can’t refute the argument.

Percentages are meaningless especially at lower levels. If there’s one case this week and four cases next week that’s a 400% increase week over week. But it’s only four cases nimrod It’s not thousands of cases like we had before. This is where people like you think you’re smart because you manipulate the math to make it look worse than it really is. Delta is more infectious it is not more deadly.

It never ceases to amaze me to people like you think you’re dealing with dumb people on this board. We are college graduates moron. We understand statistical analysis and how to look at data. We’re not idiots that you can just post anything and think we will believe it.
