You mean we want to kick it out of the end zone? And not give ND a chance to run it back. Well knock me over with a feather!

Nobody (Lakip) put KO's in endzone during spring game

I hope that Lakip is putting KOs in end zone. That would be huge. Correct me if I'm wrong but one of my biggest concerns following the spring game was the short kickoffs. At best, there was a couple of KOs that were barely in the end zone. I would love for Lakip to kick it beyond the end zone, regardless of how he performed during the spring game.

remember it was the SPRING GAME.you work on things during the spring game.. like coverage and returns. maybe we could have kicked it deeper, maybe not. but if we had kicked it deeper, we would have see nothing of our returns/coverage. my guess is we were trying to kick it short of the goal line and hang it high which we didn't do very well).

point and the kicker can help a great deal but so can the other members of that team.

I agree 100%. Too often evaluation of kickoff coverage focuses on kicker; kickoff & punt return focuses only on the returners; and punt coverage focuses on the punters. The personnel returning kickoffs and punts won't show well if blocking is inadequate. Likewise, the personnel covering kickoffs and punts really help the kickers and punters if they stay in their lanes, disengage from blockers quickly, and contain the kickoff/punt return person.
Also, too often the importance of kickoff coverage is dismissed by many commentators as not being that important. I disagree. Nothing flips momentum faster after our offense works their butts off to get a TD and then the opposing team runs the KO back and momentum shifts. This is why KO return and coverage should not be dismissed as a secondary aspect of the game.
