Coach Morris has gone all out for 2 yrs to downplay Martavis

Bryant's potential. I have great respect for Coach Morris and expect there must be a method to his madness. I praised Dabo's hire of Coach Morris when he was a subject of great debate on T-Net. I believe Coach Morris will be a successful head coach in a few years.
All that said and with full respect to Jaron Brown as both a good and clutch receiver, Martavis Bryant has as much or more NFL potential than any receiver on our Tiger team including Sammy. The more reps Martavis is given, the more TD's Clemson will score this year when Tajh puts the ball on the money.

Jaron is a better route runner than Martavis ...

... from what I saw last year.
Most, if not all, of the passes to Martavis last year were go routes in which he just used his speed and size.
Jaron is a clutch third down short yardage guy with pretty darn good hands that finds a seam and sits in it so that Tajh can get him the ball.

I think its hard to judge route running

because I personally dont think Martavis knew the playbook, Thats why every time he was on the field he was mainly running straight to the end zone

Jaron Brown
REC YDS TD AVG LONG 31 406 4 13.1 29
Martavis Bryant
REC YDS TD AVG LONG 9 221 2 24.6 54
Pretty close, with Martavis edging Jaron, especially considering the amount of time played. Not targeted, just time played. I DO completely disagree with Jaron's hands though. He has very good, inconsistent hands. Year before last I wanted to throw my 8 dollar coke at him every game. He's definitely gotten better, but Martavis is a home run hitter. We have Nuke and Sammy who can run good underneath routes (Sammy and Nuke really just as good deep), so why limit the other receiver to underneath stuff? He's a good 3rd down receiver? Put him in on 3rd down. We also have a pretty good TE who can mismatch underneath. I think Martavis has a WAYYYY bigger upside than Jaron. Plus, he's 6'5". 4.38/40 yard dash, and catches everything I've seen thrown to him. Jaron's playing because he helped get us here and he's a senior. That's about it.

WR is a more mental position than people give it credit for.
With the tools Martavis has, the fact that he's not starting either speaks to his inability to mentally grasp the game --- or the fact that Jaron is that good.
I'd lean towards the latter. I would not have Jaron Brown on the sideline for anybody after the way he played last season.
That said, they're different types of players. Jaron can run the route tree...but Martavis can stretch the field.

I really don't understand what Coach Morris is trying to prove. Martavis has outplayed Jaron all spring long. Tay is stronger, faster, and has better hands. He has learned the playbook and despite some of the other comments I read, he is a good route runner. The guy is a born playmaker, and for some reason we are not using him.

The fact that Morris has to get ugly with the Oline, does this mean Caldwell is ineffective? I'd be a little insecure and a little miffed if the CEO called out my employees in the company newsletter.

Dabo usually doesn't call guys out. An OC or HC should not have to call players out when they have position coaches who are the ones responsible for their performance. If the o-line needed to be called out, then it should have been by RC, not CM. I'm glad the line responded, but this story makes me wonder if CM is letting RC do his job.

When was the last interview you saw with a position coach?

Under Daboo's rules, I think it's up to the HC and coordinators to discuss the team.

Both Jaron and Bryant will get a ton of opportunities in this offense. No worries there.

Stick it to the offensive line and hold them accountable....DO they really want to be the weakest link?? I know you're big, but you can't be lazy...That was Antoine McClain..all the talent into the world but too #### lazy to use it...Get ugly with them.. Get down on them, they can take it..I want them pI$$ed off. I want them to want to smash someone in the mouth and not take any $h!t off anyone! Go get them....Don't give me that SEC bull...beat Auburn down!! Beat them down!! Go get them, make them BEG for mercy...GO Tigers!!

The first series, our O-line against Auburn's D-line, will be huge-we will see who's setting the tone for the game. But the ability to hang in there against more experience is just as important-hopefully we dominant the 4th quarter up front.

Their men feared them worse than the enemy.
Hopefully Morris will learn from their example.
