I was raised in rural SC, and the word "redneck" was a derogatory term for trashy white people, who were most definitely, among other things, racists.
Then again some people think of redneck when they watch "Duck Dynasty". To me those people are more like "good old boys".
"Redneck" and "Country" are not synonyms.
