What was this Bald Eagle thinking???

Dec 16, 2022, 8:54 PM

Driving on Highway 34 this morning about a mile from the Broad River, I was on a long straight stretch with tall trees on both sides of the road & an eagle glided into the lane coming my way and it banked to the left and then to the right & looked like it was going to land in the road. Then it gained altitude and flew back above the tree tops. Did he think the highway was part of the river? I have heard of the “eagle eye “ but I don’t think this one had that trait.

I don't know about eagles, but I approached some vultures years ago feasting on some road kill on a back country road with my cruise set on 60. I insisted on the right-of-way and didn't back off, knowing they would move. Well they finally did move, at the last possible second, and were all flying as fast as they could right in front of my windshield. Half broke right and the other half broke left. The final vulture who broke left nipped my side-view mirror. I looked in my rearview mirror and saw him cut about 10 flips before coming to rest in the middle of the road. Then I saw his buddies all return to the scene to continue enjoying their feast, on him. Maybe the eagle was just looking for a feast.

tigerofaiken. Had the exact thing happen to me except it did manage to break my drivers side rear view. It ended up performing the same acrobatics before becoming the next course. Like you, I figured they would move. Never hit one before as they always bailed early enough.
