They serve milk in harcombe and I'm lactose intolerant. Thus is obviously inexcusable and if demand the name be changed to something more lactose tolerant!!!

PLEASE? I know you think you are being funny, rather than exposing yourselves as racist dimwits, but yes, having a building named after a guy who LITERALLY was part of at least one lynching party is offensive. You don't have to be black to believe that. You don't even have to be liberal. There are actually some conservatives out there who also think that it is offensive to have a building memorializing this guy. It's equally offensive to name buildings after Hitler. I know, I know....Genghis Khan did bad things too....it's all in the past, who cares if there's a building named after Hitler. Well, thoughtful people, meaning intelligent people, really do care about it.

Dude, the building bears the man's name because were it not for his diligence in fighting to support the wishes of Mr. Clemson, the institution that we love most likely would not exist. Does his resume' include negatives. Without doubt, yes! However, it was a different time and a different world 100+ years ago. If we are to remove all references to those who held similar views, an accurate historical account of our past would be impossible. That's why it's called HISTORY! We learn from it and move on.
