ASK OKLAHOMA FANS? The fact is if Oklahoma wanted to keep him they would have. They have plenty of resources to match any offer from Clemson.

the strongest offensive league in the country.

And riiight, Bob Stoops really "pushed him out the door":

“We hate saying goodbye to such a close colleague and friend, but if we truly are close colleagues and friends, we want what is best for him,” Bob Stoops said ... “He has determined that his career goals might be better met in new surroundings. We can be nothing but supportive to someone who has been so loyal and supportive of us.”

...Venables said working with Mike again was never an issue. In fact, he said he recruited him back to Oklahoma over opportunities at Ohio State and Texas A&M, saying it’d “be just like the old days.”

“I was excited about the opportunity,” he said. “That’s what I told (Bob) Stoops. It’d make us better for obvious reasons. Two sets of eyes who think alike, have the same philosophy for winning, an eagerness to work together and get things done, that’s better than one.

“It’s never been about who gets the credit. You want to put a good product on the field. If things go great, everyone wants to get the credit, but there are no magical calls out there. The principles are the same on both sides of the ball. Execute, play with discipline and good things will happen. The dynamics are something I embraced.”

When asked about Bob Stoops’ influence on him, Venables had glowing words.

“First and foremost (I learned) how you treat people,” he said. “He’s very confident but one of the most humble people you’ll ever be around. Not an ounce of phoniness whatsoever. Everyone around him falls in love with him, the qualities that when you’re around him you feel that presence. It’s the way you treat people, players, support staff, families, as much as anything, doing things the right way. Not looking the other way.”

“He’s got that type of how he is as a head coach, allows his coaches, gives you confidence as a coach,” he said. “He gives you great autonomy. And when things don’t always work out, which is going to happen, he’s never one to sit there and second-guess you. He recognizes that sometimes it’s not good, sometimes the player’s not good, sometimes the call’s not a great call. It’s never going to be perfect at the end of the day. It springs out of the culture, atmosphere to be successful. He’s very big on how you think and talk, the confidence level you portray to your players.”

Yes UT beat them... BUT SC also beat Mizzu @ Mizzu. This team can play with anyone but also capable of laying an egg.

If SC plays auburn in ATL, I can see them winning that game.
The bowl game who knows but this team is 8-2 and ranked #11. They are a very good team.
We still have to beat them at willy B and that will not be easy at all.

Based on the only game the Coots have played good this year was vs Arky. They have had a horse shoe up their azzes all year

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What makes you think they could beat Auburn?

Nov 20, 2013, 2:27 PM [ in reply to Based on your orange colored glasses? ]

From what I have seen of Auburn this year, outside the Georgia game and even in their one loss, they have been very solid on both sides of the ball. SC doesn't have a consistent offense and their defense has gotten worse and worse as the year has gone on. IF SC were to play either Auburn or Alabama in Atlanta, it would be very similar to the last time they went to the SECCG... embarrassing.

that would make the year extra special! I believe our better D and the big mouths on the coots will provide all the motivation we need to go out and kick a$$. They have dropped down a level this year and we need to get an early hit on Shaw ( clean by all means) and let him know when he starts to run he will get hit hard time after time after time. One double team on the clown will let that goof know we are serious. Goooo Tigers!!!Bring home the bacon to Death Valley and I am suggesting a win will lead to a reception of major proportions when our victors arrive home! Can you image what it must be like to go to that crappy school have an ignorant coach like Slurrier and have a bunch of thugs as team mates? NO thanks.

mobile qb, and a good rb, will faze our defense. our passing defense is @ #43 giving up 220.5 ypg, but heck, that's all of 21.9 ypg different than usuc's #15 ranking at 198.6. that's a big jumble of teams grouped tight right in that same range.again, everything looks to be in our favor.

Is better and more consistent than last year. Defense had to replace a lot but the young and experienced guys have steadily improved all season. Cant see how we dropped a level because we lost on the road at UGA and on the road at UT. UT sucks but Neyland is a tough spot to play at.

I think if we go into columbia and play our A game... we win.
Outside of that, the SCar has a good team when they playing their game. They have had ups and downs this year but the have found ways to win games so it would be hard to really say they would lose 3 in a row.

Please Mizzou got Franklin back so assuming they lose to A&M is a reach as well.
