WE are seeing greed & disloyalty like never before and b/c

Jan 3, 2022, 7:09 PM

grown-ups (like NCAA, parents, coaches, fans, etc) can’t just say no to young college STUDENT/Athletic football players who feel they’re due total financial success before earning it..

after they are already given stipends, 4 years guaranteed paid schollies, books, meals, etc.

Yes, people have identities etc that are worth something monetarily and that’s what the schollie is for initially to ALL the players equally..

and for those who are good enough (1.9%) they can go on to the NFL and the other 98.1% can get more education or get a job.

Remember, it is to play football and learn in equal amounts OR we’ve been kidding ourselves..

which finally has come out in the open big time as a lie what with greed & no grown-up restraint or appropriate rules being correctly enforced.

Saying, it’s lasez-faire as the French say!

they are letting the kids run the show now

Jan 3, 2022, 7:13 PM

either pay us or we will move on like free agency in the nfl.

this is moral impact the thug nfl has on youth.

Agreed. I also say don't hate the player just because he games the game.

And here I thought you were going to talk about coaches salaries..

Coach preaches this stuff everyday but it falls on deaf ears... only time will tell but it doesn't look good for schools trying to do it right...

What it really is, is the Bagmen finally got tired of hiding

Jan 3, 2022, 7:21 PM

in the shadows, and dealing with all the cloak and dagger illegal stuff. So, they got together and somehow finessed their way into making it all LEGAL. Now, the sun can shine on them and they can openly buy the team, just like they always wanted.

Some kids are being set up for a truly extravagant lifestyle, that is only going to last two or three years at the most. Then, when they have gotten used to all this money, suddenly it is going to be gone, because they are not good enough to make the NFL. They will be in hock up to their eyeballs, and will become tomorrows criminal news. Hide and see if it does not come to pass.

100% on your first paragraph 100%
GA and A&M have simply become legal…like weed in legal states, same stuff.
Only thing wrong about the second is that some of these guys are going to puff up for NIL, then turn out to be duds, but not necessarily broke. Time will tell…
Only DJ might know whether NIL hurt him.

The college FB coaches and AD's brought this on themselves. We saw this coming when every one involved in the game started making millions and the ones primarily responsible for those millions got nothing. Coaches and AD's wouldn't even pony up a few hundred to pay all players.

Even Ray Charles could have seen this coming.

The money! Use to be in getting your degree!

Jan 3, 2022, 10:54 PM

These kids probably don't know how much tuition is(I know they likely know). Some of them don't at least know! It's a lot.
That degree unlike the NFL is forever!

What happens if the sponsor of your NIL changes their mind or someone else shines on the team. Will let's say the QB does not throw to an open WR in order to boost another player's NIL deal with who he's cooler with. That would "just be business" not personal right?

It's opened a box of worms that was not intended to be open, but it has opened.

As for the coach's salary! I can't put this on them solely! Any of us would be fools to not take: "FAIR MARKET VALUE" for the job we are doing.

The win at all cost from boosters who want to see their alma matter as National Champions as boosted the coaches salary.
It needs to be reigned in; but is it too late? Is the genie out of the bottle now?

It’s hard to blame the players. College football has become a multi-billion dollar industry and while the scholarships and stipends are significant for the players, there a drop in the bucket to the money has been made by the coaches in universities.
I don’t blame the players for wanting to cash in, especially when only 1.6% of them will make it onto the NFL and make careers at a football.
What I dislike most is the free flow of money via NIL is going to benefit the larger, wealthier schools leaving smaller schools like Clemson at a disadvantage.

Exactly!

Greed and disloyalty huh?

Jan 3, 2022, 11:15 PM

The players learned from the coaches and others who've been cashing in at the multi-billion dollar gravy train known as CFB.

If it's good for everyone else, it's good for the players too. You can't keep one group tied up while everyone else runs loose.

But lowering the academic requirements to let these

Jan 3, 2022, 11:22 PM

players in didn't push you away though, right?

Now it's affecting the sport you watch for entertainment.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It was ALWAYS there - now just the players get to

It is time to have academic requirements

Jan 3, 2022, 11:49 PM

For student athletes - standards that come close to those of normal students.

And it is time for "professional" athletes to go pro. Minor league football is needed for non-STUDENT- Athletes.

PS: I agree that coaches make way too much money. But that problem is NOT solved by paying student-athletes. That's like pouring gasoline on the fire.

OBVIOUS points.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It isn't about "solving" coaching salaries

Jan 3, 2022, 11:55 PM

That has been out of the bag for years and can't go back in. The collateral damage comes with it.

If you are going to do the work, why not get as much compensation for it as you can?

Probably has something to do with it.
