72% of Americans support extending the ACA insurance subsidies.

22% of Americans do not think the subsidies should be extended.

70% of Americans think things in this country are heading in the wrong direction.

Republicans control every single branch of government.

Mike Johnson continues to keep the House on vacation. Mike Johnson refuses to swear in the 218th vote for the Epstein Files discharge petition. The Epstein Files and the pedophiles detailed in them continue to be hidden by Republicans from the American people.

The politics of the situation suggest Republicans should end the shutdown, extend the ACA subsidies, swear in the new Democratic House member, vote to approve the discharge petition for the Epstein Files and vote to release the Epstein Files.

Still, they refuse. What is in the The Epstein Files that scares them so?

I personally know several hard-working folks whose quality of life has improved drastically due to Obamacare…a direct, substantial, and life-changing improvement. I support extending the subsidies.

As for the Epstein files…as I and many have said, I don’t care who they implicate or if they implicate no one. The current Pub leadership are cowards. Release the files…all of the files…unaltered.

The subsidies are graduated the the closer you get to 4X cutoff

Oct 21, 2025, 2:01 PM [ in reply to The GOP is losing this argument so badly ]
Reply

4X is actually the cutoff for zero subsidies. When calculation are done and then compared to health insurance costs, the subsidies are not excessive. Employer based healthcare insurance is a significant benefit. The cost of VA healthcare, Medicare and Medicaid are also quite significant.

Federal poverty level (FPL): 2025
For individuals -$15,650
For a family of 2 -$21,150
For a family of 3 -$26,650
For a family of 4 -$32,150
For a family of 5 -$37,650
For a family of 6 - $43,150

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not excessive?

Oct 21, 2025, 4:23 PM
Reply

So when my Senator says the current plan is $559/month and without the temporary/set to expire subsidy it jumps $2,131 that's no excessive?

Personal cost: $ 6,708
Taxpayer cost: $ 18,864

So the taxpayer chipping in almost 3x what the individual is paying is not "excessive?"

These are numbers that Senator Warnock is touting.

Also, Democrats originally made these subsidies temporary. Then they extended them as a temporary measure. If it was so important to the well being of millions, why didn't they make them permanent? They have total control of the Government and the ability to do it?

They had to have support of 10 republicans to avoid the filibuster.

They wouldn’t have gotten that support without the spending being temporary.

Would ask whether the question was explained as the Covid Enhancement ACA subsidies because that is all that is going away. The way a question is asked in a poll does matter and framing it just as the subsidy most likely influenced the outcome. It is why Companies who survey employees ask the same question multiple times just worded differently so they can check consistency.

Well yeah , free stuff is always popular. Well free is is misnomer actually as somebody has to pay for them. Well that is a misnomer too since we borrow $1.5T-$2T each year because we run a deficit. Which only adds to the interest payments thus causing more borrowing, fear not though it will all blow up.

The bigger issue is the coming cuts to SS and Medicare that nobody is addressing. That one will be a doozy I tell you. Gonna be much gnashing of teeth if our elected clowns do not do something soon on it. Trump made it worse with the $6K tax credit in the BBB. Shoot, better have a whole wagon load of popcorn for that.

My bet is a situation similar to England, where 50% of pensioners( SS) are unable to turn the heat on in the winter, well if you call setting it at 50 turning it on. Climate change is making it hotter there too in the summer, most have no AC. Gonna really be a budget buster to install and then attempt to run it and eat.
