Thieves seem to easily get around this, harder for us normal folks.
My key is battered and busted, held together by tape.
Today at Home Depot had a hard time getting it to start the Jeep.
A new one is near $200 and it seems in my area no brick and motor store, just mobile units.
The Walmart and Lowes machines don't work on my Jeep or most cars.
Jeep dealer requires an appointment and lots of $$.
I just ordered a do-it your self thing from amazon, but ??
I bet yawl young tech savvy guys can advise me.

I do have some expertise at that (and in my mind - all things).
It aint like in the movies where a couple wires hang down.
Auto theft is near the top of of crimes. One reason why is cops charge the as ##### with felony auto theft and the DA reduces it to misdemeanor joy riding.

Had a simple key made for daughter of EAJ (no pigs) for her Honda. Factory keys had a fob with buttons on top. Just wanted a key without the electronics (ie washing machine safe). Honda would not do that. Ace did. Sort of like the old school valet key.

Yes batteries plus can do it as well as a decent locksmith. I bought 2 new fobs on Amazon and had a local locksmith to program them. You just need to have one that works for the locksmith to mirror.

I took a Key Fob to the Batteries Plus in Clemson that isn't opening the doors remotely for my Toyota FJ. The battery tested good and they wanted $250 to fix the the Fob. I said, I'll go back to manually unlocking the doors. The key still starts the FJ.

Google and call the guy that will make a key at your residence. They know all the tricks and cheaper. U have to have the car to plug in to to program the key. Use the right tool for the job!

My phone opens and starts my car, can't be stolen unless they steal my phone, but they will be on camera and I can have the car shut down remotely.

We bought replacement FOBs from Amazon a few years ago and they have works fine. Cost was very low.
