What am I missing?

We've been asking ourselves, what's different?
TL is gone : Doesn't matter. If our QB can play on the level of Cole Stoudt, Kelly Bryant, or Charlie Whitehurst, we should be rolling. He doesn't have to be TL or anywhere near that level.
Etienne is gone: Shouldn't matter. OLine is more experienced and should be better than last season.
WRs: Should be better this season. Last year we didn't have the tall, long playmakers and relied on the twitchy, quicker ones like Amari Rodgers. Powell really stepped up and showed out and we all appreciate him, but he is not quite in the Tee Higgins mold.
TEs: deeper and more experienced this year.
The coaches didn't forget how to coach. Contrary to what Tigernet tells us, we have one of the best coaching staffs in the country. There's a reason several get rumored for coaching vacancies every year. That doesn't happen everywhere.
What am I missing?

Deeper doesn't mean better.
Players aren't performing to their potential.
The wide receivers are not getting open, not blocking and dropping very catchall passes.
DJ is performing poorly on his on and because of receivers.
It has been a team effort in joint mediocrity.

Probably a lot given the question you are asking. Experience is a key factor plus all the pieces fitting together meaning playing together as one unit. So far we have a bunch of talented guys who have not been the alpha at the college level so their confidence is low. They also do not play together meaning a different guy makes a mistake on almost every play. Finally they are thinking instead of just playing which means they are playing slow.
Said differently they lack confidence and experience like a 16 year old trying to parallel park. The only solution is to keep doing it until they figure it out.

are no longer being masked by generational talent. That's the problem.
You are watching Elliott, Dabo, Streeter, etc. learn on the fly. They haven't been in this situation before, and it shows since we've played 5 games with little to no improvement on offense.
I believe they will ultimately figure it out. It just might take some time.
In the interim, we will continue hearing about "poor execution" and other things.

but rather than being masked by "generational talent" I think it's been masked by the ACC competition.............examples:
2019: Our offense was "supposedly" the #4 ranked offense in the country. We scored 25 points in the title game vs LSU's 33rd ranked defense.........underperforming when you consider our offensive rank compared to LSU's defense that year.
2020: Our offense was "supposedly" the #4 ranked offense in the country. We scored 28 points in the title game vs Ohio States 44th ranked defense........again underperforming again.
2021: Well, you know the rest

appear but are being masked to an extent by good coaching, and without the coaches you just mentioned, maybe we would be even worse?
Impossible to know, especially looking at it from the outside with an untrained eye.

(and they very well could be).........then that's still on the coaches..........whether that be lack of talent (which i don't think is it, but that's coaching recruiting the talent), lack of development (coaching), predictable playcalling (coaching), etc....
yes, the players share some blame, but the talent we have on the roster should NOT be THIS BAD...........dipping to 40-50 ranked offense is one thing, but dropping from top 10 to 108 is mind boggling to me. Some of the BEST offenses of recent years have lost a TON of talent/experience the following year and haven't been close to as bad as we are now.
I hear "even alabama had a down year a couple years ago"...........they went 11-2 and averaged 47 ppg on offense..............sign me up for a down year like that.

For example, we have no idea what players may be going through, mentally or physically. We know that DJ's family is going through a very difficult time right now, and there is no way for a coach to know how something like that may affect a player. That's just an example, and that may not be an issue at all, but the point is oversimplifying the problem doesn't make it simple.

Well it's because he embraced the back up role, which is knowing you will never play and are not good enough to play, but help get the starter ready and the rest of the team... Cole is trash, KB is a good college QB... none of the 3 would take us to DW4 or TL levels, or even close to it.

Certainly romanticizing some former QB's....Cole was terrible, even not injured, Charlie was OK but was super lazy, entitled and the word on campus was just full of himself--which is why he didn't keep getting better after his freshman year. I would take KB in this offense.

ATTITUDE........there is a change in attitude from the top down. The chemistry we had in previous years is just not there. Attitude and love & respect for your teammates. It just feels different this year.

Awesome responses.
Those blaming coaching, Dabo and company (including Tony Elliott) have done much more with wayyy less talent than they have this year. Too lazy to look up the recruiting classes for when he first took over or won that first ACCCG, but compared to now, something isn't adding up.
I would even say the ACC was much better then. There was a time when it was on par or slightly better than any other conference.
The point about bringing up Whitehurst, KB, and Stoudt was just that we shouldn't need a #1 overall, 5* QB performance to comfortably put GT and BC away by the 3rd quarter. Just be at least a Will Proctor and we should be fine. 
I'm still believing the light switch will suddenly turn on at some point before the season is over.
