Whatever happened to Ol' Norm's?

Hardware and Sporting Goods! I found a bag of bolts in my old toolbox that I'd used to make one of my lofts, back in the day - had Ol' Norm's logo printed on it. Brought back some memories. Obviously they closed, but just wondered what the bigger story was - kinda forced out by the big box stores, owners got older and didn't want to keep running it, etc.

Too bad it couldn't stick around. I always figured it along with Judge Keller's to be Clemson institutions. Glad Keller's is still there, at least, and still in their family! Lots of Clemson history in that old place!

Bought an extension ladder there for $30 when they were closing. They took my dog in once when he wandered in the store. Gave him a bowl of water and told me he could come back anytime...circa 1997 or so.

Closed down in 2007 when he retired. The building was torn down and they've built Bonjangles, Courtyard Marriott, Planet Fitness, etc. on the property. His name was Norman Canoy and the street that runs through there is now called Canoy Lane.

Never thought I'd say/type that - but that was classic, and sounds like it was very true to who he was!
