response is "that's not very Christ like of you" whenever somebody brings up not wanting Syrian refugees? They have to be the dumbest, most clueless people on the planet.

Wouldn't being for it first and then changing be fine?

After all, that's what you would expect someone to do if the facts changed. Also, isn't Cruz saying he's for accepting certain refugees who are being persecuted, but that most of the refugees should be taken care of in countries near Syria? I guess I don't really see anything that's contradictory on principle. Similarly, somebody might be against receiving a lot of refugees (including those who don't face religious persecution) under certain circumstances, but if the civil war just turned into a wholesale slaughter, then they might change their minds and decide we should let in everybody.
What would be contradictory would be if somebody like Cruz started off saying things like Obama is saying (that it's basically racist and un-American not to accept any refugees in general), and then suddenly decided we shouldn't take a particular group of refugees. Or, you could've started off with a generally anti-refugee stance, but then have started saying the kinds of things Obama's saying later on. But the people who think we should suspend Syrian resettlement, or at least curtail it sharply, aren't taking an absolute stance. They're saying that given the complicated situation in Syria, we should try to be as sure as possible that people aren't involved with ISIS and that it makes more sense to help them resettle in nearby countries.

You're a smart guy, quit letting emotion override your intelligence and common sense. To just go ahead and admit these "refugees"(I'm not so sure that is what they are) is simply stupid, and it shows you just how partisan some of you dems are. This should be a no brainer for people on either side of the isle.

How well do you know the refugee process here in the states?

it's pretty rigorous. We aren't just "admitting them," at least, not for around 2 years. (Our process is much more rigorous than France, who again is going to admit 30,000 refugees despite just being attacked. Please argue how this is a partisan opinion or dumb?
partisan ideas are the ones that assumes these aren't refugees by putting quotes around the idea or impugns their innocence based on nothing but fear. The partisan side is the one that thinks we shouldn't even let 5 year old orphan refugees into the country (Chris Christie). That's not intelligence or common sense, that's emotional thinking. Let's follow France's lead on this, instead of letting our emotions get the better of us.
I agree though, this should be a "no brainer" for people on either side of the isle. But sadly, fear has firmly gripped one side and is smothering their humanity and making them act against the principles of American idealism.

I don't care how rigorous our process is, many of these people simply cannot be vetted. And I'd be shocked if it took 2 years for them to make it over here, guaranteed they'd be here by February if many dems, including the president, had their way.

the distance from San Diego to Charleston. That's why it makes more sense for France to keep taking in refugees. There's also the fact that the EU basically opened its borders to refugees, which has resulted in hundreds of thousands of people coming to Europe.
I'm willing to bet that Hollande wouldn't veto the bill that the House just passed to increase screening of refugees, either.
