The question is by "gem", you mean a kid who is lightly regarded who will be a productive member of the team in a few years, whether you mean any kid regardless of the hype who will be a "star" as a true freshman, or whether you mean something in the middle.
Short term gems are obviously Alexander and Kearse a) because they both come in at positions of need and b) because both are physically/athletically ready for the college game. All reports indicate that Alexander is more mentally ready and IMO CB is an easier position to play as a true freshman. I'll also go out on a very short limb and say that Dye makes a contribution. Again, part because of need and part because of his talent and physical development.
Long term, the coaches really like Leggett at TE. He fits Morris' system and is a great pass catcher. With a little physical development, we could have another Dwayne Allen on our hands.
Assuming they make the mental transition, these kids have really big upside:
LB - Boulware and O'Daniel DL - Ogundeko, Lawson, and Pagano OL - Crowder (will take a few years to develop) DB/WR - Tankersley (grades), Greene (not this year), and Williams (timing unknown because of depth on the current team)

I wouldn't mind being proven wrong. Who doesn't want to see a couple 4th & 1 conversions finally completed behind a strong OG!

I'm thinking there's a lot of gems in this year's class.

If you think about it, with the excessive and expanding hype being heaped on the SEC year by year lately, for kids to see through all of that, talented kids who've all excelled among their peers according to the recruiting rankings, and have chosen Clemson and what it is and what it offers, you've got to think this class is brimming with something special at every turn.

IMO, and I havent watched every sinle one of our signees tapes, but most of them, I'd say Ben Boulware BY FAR. Wasnt even close. Havent watched alexander though. Gotta say that. But the best foundation of instincts and intangibles or things you cant teach to me is Bouleware. Hes gonna be a beast.

Hard for him to be a "hidden" gem when hes highly rated. He will be a beast but the guy who will be a real hidden gem is TJ Green

I suspect there may be more like 5 or 6 gems in this class. Of those less highly touted, Clark gets my vote. The kid wants to play for us and will work very hard to get on the field. Can't have too many of that kind of player.

I'm going to say Jordan Leggett. With Ford graduating, there's a real need for a big, physical tight end who can also run and catch well. Hopefully he's a good fit for that role.

To be honest, I do have some concern about him. Was arrested back when he was a kid, which you would think he learned from, but then was arrested again last summer. Hope Im wrong though.

After watching his film I couldn't believe how physical he is. When he meets the ball carrier their forward momentum is instantly reversed. I've never seen a recruiting film where so many guys were put on their back. Well I take that back David Beasley's film was pretty close.
