Is Frank Martin a better recruiter than Brownell in his 1st
Mar 24, 2013, 9:54 AM

year? He's signed Sindarius Thornwell, the No. 1 rated player in the state, a 4 star recruit, while our staff, in it's 3rd year, couldn't. They look good for Demetrius Henry, another 4 star recruit that we recruited hard, after this weekend. Given that we only have 2 non-wing players on our roster, you would think he would be very interested in us, but we didn't even make his final three. Reggie Theus, Jr. a 6-6 guard visited this weekend.
Plus, Martin is willing to run people off and replace them with better players.
The early results suggest he is.

Frank Martin got into big trouble and was suspended
Mar 24, 2013, 10:28 AM
|
|
by Florida HS authorities for rules violation before ever taking a collegiate position and Martin's association with some AAU coaches with shady reputations had been documented BEFORE he took a job on Bob Huggins staff at KState---and Huggins (or Thuggins if you prefer) has one of the worst reputations of NCAA rules violations of any active coach---to be honest, considering all the trouble Huggins former employers have gotten into over the years, I'm amazed theres not a "show cause" sanction hanging over his head.
All this info is available over the internet
btw--if you two want to blow wind up a usuck coach's skirt, there are coot boards on which to do so.

No coach can attract good players to a school with no relevant basketball tradition, especially in the state of South Carolina. If by some chance it is possible, it would take years and years of building relationships. But seriously, you're better off just accepting that you'll never be better than mediocre, but rather just hope to be decent with the crumbs that fall off of the table.
All of that is just a fact.

That frank has been on the edge of ethic and moral decency in the recruiting circles his entire career.
That said, sadly, that's how some guys win (quickly) in hoops and how it is done.

I read online (fwiw) that Martin had gotten his position with Huggins at KState BECAUSE of his relationship with the AAU coach of a HS star from NJ who eventually signed with KState and then left the Wildcats program after Huggins took another HC position.
The AD at KState apparently had some big issues with Martin taking over as HC at KState after Huggins left and pretty much gave Martin the "bum's rush" out the door

that's why he didn't get in trouble. If he is around long enough at SCU, Martin will get into trouble. He is an arrogant cheater.

some NCAA violations and the AD suspended a player for the rest of the season when it was found out he had broke NCAA rules. The NCAA was about to come and KSU was going to be fully cooperative, that's why Martin bolted to SCU.

Martin can actually recruit. Brownell is probably one of the top 10 worst recruiters in the country. I think Brownell is s better coach and also a lot less dooshey than Martin.....but at the end of the day Martin is getting the players he needs and Brownell is not

He can get players its that simple and basketball is all about players you either have them or you don't. Even bad coaches can win with good players look at Roy Williams.

As far as I'm concerned, Brownell's career at Clemson rests squarely on the shoulders of Blossomgame and Rooks. He is a very good coach, but his future at Clemson was always going to be determined by how well he could recruit. His first 3 years were not good enough; Blossomgame and Rooks may save him.

i am not gonna sit here and say he cheats, but he sure as he** bends the rules! he was in trouble in his hs coaching days, before he moved up to the ncaa level, and that's pretty bad. once you cross the line, there is no going back.

he was a cheater as a coach in high school, he was a cheater as an assistant under pathological cheater Bob Huggins, and he was cheater as head coach at KSU.

KSU started to fall off the longer he was their. Four players were about to leave the team before he bolted for SCU, once he bolted they stayed and KSU got better with their new coach. Also, KSU's AD was ready to get rid of him.

That's what he was always good at. Very flashy guy who is good at getting attention, but not the best X's and O's coach. Unfortunately, I think that may be a better recipe for a head coach than a guy who is technically strong.
