Well boys, since it is an off weekend I want to share my day

Oct 25, 2022, 8:55 PM

As a Realtor. Recently, I listed an historic piece of property in Powdersville which has been in my sellers family for hundreds of years. I just put it under contract and today met the surveyor to start on the surveys for the separate portions. My property is adjacent to the American Revolutionary Cemetery wh8ch had possibly 23 American Revolutionary War heroes buried here.My sellers are direct descendants if Robert Pickens. Today, my surveyor carried me through the cemetery and it was like walking back in time. We're talking THREE HUNDRED FIFTY YEARS! I took the liberty of taking a few pictures...

The first picture is the headstone of Aunt Jemima Pickens, a 105 year old slave, who I assume was given the name Pickens by the family. My great great grandfather was killed in the Civil War and owned slaves himself. And today, seeing thus history laid out before me with American Revolutionary heroes, War of 1812 Heroes, Spanish American War Heroes,Civil War Heroes...and ad possibly 12 slaves buried in the same cemetery I thought how far we have come. Hopefully our country can navigate our way through the coming future...

Very cool. I was born and raised in Powdersville. Used to bottle hunt at old run down sites. Siloam Baptist has some unmarked slave graves too. I remember walking through the woods there and in back is remnant of old baptism pool. I love this kind of stuff. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Are you talking about Siloam Baptist in 96?

Sounds familiar

Yeah. I actually was visiting Greenville 2 years ago and went back to Siloam to retrace my youthful steps when I was a kid there.

No, all my relatives have either moved away or passed away. We’re the Nations family. Got a few cousins left around Easley area but since my dad died nobody keeps in touch much. Just me and my 2 brothers now. I went to Siloam up until I graduated Wren in 83.

Great stuff!

I enjoy walking through old Revolutionary cemeteries, one of which is out in near Woodruff that I go to, that is obscure and somewhat ignored, but clearly marked and somewhat re-furbished.

I do wish though that you would've responded to my Tmail to you though. Disappointed in that one.

Don't be. To be honest I just now figured out I had T Mail after reading your post. I kept seeing a 1 on my logo but couldn't figure out what it meant on my iphone...I see now. Sorry about that.
