I sat beside a gay man on my last flight from ATL to LAX

Feb 10, 2014, 10:39 PM

True story --- He mentioned his roommate was named David. I asked what sort of a relationship they had. He told me. I asked if he felt discriminated against in 2013. He said yes. I told him that he had nothing on me when it comes to being discriminated against. Because I know what it is like to attend a Southern Baptist church after getting a divorce. I was allowed to mow the grass, take up the collection, and handout bulletins so long as I didn't touch or breathe on anyone. He asked if I was kidding. I told him that I wasn't. That I would have been more warmly received by killing someone, having my death sentence overturned on a technicality, released back into the public, and joining that same church. They would have explained that everyone deserves a second chance in the eyes of the Lord. Accept me of course. Like I said, this is a true story.

You are correct, Bill lies between his teeth all the time on flights. Hartins, "roomate", has never discriminated.... ;)

Drankin is putting it lightly. More like chugging, with the occasional keg stand and bong hit. Charlie Sheen was like, Wow!

If he had the seat by the window, he was probably telling the truth. Looking out of the window causes you to think of a hundred ways that thing hit the ground with the landing gear up. Its truth time then :)

have never had a clue what others go through when it comes to being judged by mankind and their somewhat difficult to follow yet highly subjective rulebook.

seems to me the point was that social stereotypes are what was driving this. It is socially acceptable, now, to be gay. Divorce your spouse and Heaven will rain down. Your brother in orange was telling you about something of pain. You seem to have devolved into derogatory comments. Something that would have been thrown at "the gay man" a few years ago.

friggin hypocrite

I have spoken at many churches but MOST Southern Baptist churches will NOT invite me to speak because I was divorced years ago.

It is like its the only sin unforgivable in my personal experiences.

I've had many debates with Southern Baptists about this one issue.

Ex con can be saved and lead to preach, a homosexual can be saved and lead topreach, a pornogropher can be saved and lead to preach but boy a man that was divorced many years ago can't lead anyone.

The conversation I had with the pastor during separation was

Feb 11, 2014, 8:03 AM

difficult to understand then and now --- Six months into the separation, I realized that I was making a big mistake and went to the church to ask the pastor to help me reconcile with my wife --- He said he had heard what I had done, started listing numerous things and didn't see why she would have me back --- I told him he was mistaken about a lot of the details which were just rumors --- He expressed shock and disbelief that his assumptions would be considered inaccurate --- I noted that I was there to answer any questions he may have, that I had certainly made major mistakes, but was willing to do anything to make it right --- He ridiculed me and sent me on my way. I didn't stop there in my efforts. But was never able to get any traction in reconciliation. Today, my former wife and I are very good friends. So it would seem that with a little help, our marriage would have survived.

You just picked out the wrong Sou Baptist church.

Feb 11, 2014, 3:33 AM

You should have visited the churches where I was a member.
