Might as well, live it up, while its here! I liked the preseason heading on the ESPN ticker on tv yesterday"Alabama, Clemson sit atop preseason college football." Hope this lasts for a long time!!

We just need a title within the next few years. I think Dabo gets at least one before 2020.

feelings in the early 80's except then we did have a national title on top of everything else. Until we get another national title, this is not the best of times for Clemson football.

We weren't very good in mid 80's and were on probation

during several of those years.
The program is much healthier now. The administration is fully behind us.
This is the best ever IMO.

when you put the whole thing together, and look at the big picture, this program is in better shape now, than it was in the 80's. It just is. Huge signature wins, recruiting off the chart, no NCAA sniffing around, no ### losses to NCSt 3 years in a row where you could have won the Natty all 3 years.
I mean, big picture, it's close, but now the program is better. And if you don't think the Natty is coming that you say we need for this to be the best, bless your heart.

Yeah, obviously we need a Natty. But the entire program

from the President on down is the best that it has ever been.
It's much harder to have sustained success in today's football world of limited scholarships as well.

is is great shape right now - was just making a point that IMO the national championship in '81 remains the pinnacle of our football program's success. If you're talking about the overall state of our program, then Dabo's built a stronger and "healthier" program than Danny built.

There once was a monastery where only one monk per year was allowed to speak one sentence per year.
1st year, one monk said: "Life is like a deep well." 2nd year, 2nd monk said: "I don't think life is like a deep well." 3rd year, 3rd monk said: I'm tired of this constant bickering, I'm leaving!"

While we haven't reached the pinnacle this decade like we

did in the 80s, it's arguable that we've had a more consistently good run since 2011 than we had in any stretch in the 80s.
Our records in the 80s:
1981: we were obviously 12-0 (#1) 1982: 9-1-1 (#8) 1983: 9-1-1 (#11) 1984: 7-4 (NR) 1985: 6-6 (NR) 1986: 8-2-2 (#17) 1987: 10-2 (#10) 1988: 10-2 (#8) 1989:10-2 (#11) 1990: 10-2 (#9)
The difference in poll finishes are basically negligible and entirely subjective.
But in terms of winning percentage, from 81-85 we won 75% of our games. 80% of our games from 86-90.
From 2011-2015 we won 82% of our games.
2011: 10-4 (#22) 2012: 11-2 (#9) 2013: 11-2 (#7) 2014: 10-3 (#18) 2015: 14-1 (#2)
The ACC is a much tougher league now than almost any year when DF was coaching, mostly by virtue of the number of added teams and a conference championship game. We've also had arguably a better stretch of bowl wins than any time in the 80s (LSU, OSU, OU twice). So while obviously we haven't peaked like we did in '81 (yet!), I would argue we've had the most consistently good stretch of 5 years in Clemson history (and without some of the headscratchers that Danny was prone to sometimes).
