Would we also join Conference USA? Something the BOT must

May 25, 2012, 8:19 PM

also consider is our Clemson University Rowing Team if an offer to join the Big 12 Conference does come.

Rowing is not a sport sponsored by the Big 12 but Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma and Texas - have rowing teams. We waxed several of them this year. How would this impact Clemson Athletics?

Starting in 2013, the NCAA will award automatic qualifying spots in its rowing championships to conference champions.

The four Big 12 schools along with Tennessee and Alabama from the Southeastern Conference plus Tulsa, SMU and Central Florida are coming together under the Conference USA banner to form a rowing conference.

Would we have to join the Conference USA as well as the Big 12? This may be a sticking point in talks with the Big 12.

Just saying but what if it all comes down to rowing?

Something to think about.

The Big 12 Rowing Championship will enter its first year as a fully-supported conference championship in 2012. The event was first supported on a limited basis beginning in 2009. This season's competition will take place on the Oklahoma River in Oklahoma City. OU will serve as the host school.

The schedule for this year's event will be announced prior to the Championship. Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma and Texas are the four Big 12 members who sponsor women's rowing teams.

Texas has won all three rowing championships held since the 2009 campaign.
