but I really hope he doesn’t average more than 3.8 points per game, or shoot better than 40.3% from the floor next season. It’s not that I’m pulling against Del, I wish him nothing but the best, but I really don’t want other programs using his improved numbers against our staff in future recruiting battles. If I were a coach at another program I’d use Del as an example of how much better conferences like The Big South are at developing talent. The data would be hard to refute and could really hurt our reputation in college basketball recruiting circles. Let’s hope I’m wrong about this and both Del and Clemson can move forward, each finding success.

Sounds like Brad does not know how to develop talent.

He seems aware of this deficiency. He has cut ties with Del and has brought in some transfers that have been developed by other programs. It’s a smart move and I would expect nothing less from the winningest coach in Clemson history. Go Tigers!🐅

Dang, never thought of it that way. Well said on both accounts.
It'd be a huge story should Radford win the Big South and return to the ncaa for the first time since 2018. Media would have a field day with "former Clemson Tiger that Brad wouldn't keep." 🤔

I need to put the actual numbers together but virtually every player that transfers out leaves with a lower ranking than when they arrived. Of those players, the ones that transfer again leave with a higher ranking than they had when they left Clemson. It actually completely blows up any argument that he develops players. But since TNet is mostly BrownellBrosNet these days it is not really worth the trouble.

I can promise you he will average more than 4 points a game at Radford if he is well. In the Big South, Del Jones is a game changer.

I don't understand this take. Players transfer out of major programs all the time for better playing time at smaller programs. Heck, it's even happened within our football program as well. I think if Del Jones truly believed that he was a top tier talent getting a raw deal at Clemson, then he wouldve sought to transfer to another major university. Clemson may not be basketball Mecca, and Brownell isn't Coach K, but when a player transfers from Clemson to Radford I believe it speaks more to the player and less about the coach.

Resentful? I don’t know this seems to be a situation someone of your TNET status wouldn’t give a sh** about.Radford offered more money. Del said that sometime recently. It wasn’t really that much about anything besides money for him. Del Jones doing okay at Radford will do absolutely nothing about anything. Because he likely, actually he definitely will. It’s Radford. He gets more touches. Worse defenders. He’ll average at least 10 points a game.
Del Jones’ amount of success at Radford or any individual transfer out from Clemson isn’t going to change the landscape of our basketball recruiting

which is another concern. Since we didn’t use the extra money, I can only surmise the staff didn’t think Del was worth it. If that’s the case, why did we even recruit him to start with? Something is just not adding up here.

Brad Brownell: “Clemson doesn’t support me enough financially to be any more successful than we are.”
Also Brad Brownell: “I couldn’t figure out how to use all the money Clemson gave me.”

Just makes you wonder why we even recruited him in the first place if we didn’t think he was worth very much. There’s a lot to unpack here.

offered at Radford, which I read was 2025's outdoorsiest campus in the Big South.
Radford, the article explained, offers both the Blue Ridge mountains and the New River for athletes like Del Jones to take full advantage of whereas Clemson only has the Blue Ridge Mountains and a few boring lakes.
How can CBB compete with that.
Also, am very proud to be the 20th TU on the OP.

After a year of development under Brad Brownell, Del Jones is more valuable to a Big South program than to the program that has already invested far more than the differential of that cash offer into Del Jones. Brownell Bros logic at its finest.
