is our basketball team needs the opponent to barely miss shots so we can effectively rebound. If shots are too far off, we can’t rebound consistently. This gives really poor shooting teams a tremendous advantage over us. And if the opponent shoots too well, their shots go in, and we have no chance to rebound them. So of the 3 shot types; close miss, bad miss, & successful shot, 67% of them are unreboundable. I think most fans don’t understand this.

and no one is happier about that than me. But, the original post was regarding comments about rebounding...
The comment I saw re rebounding... "Part of the problem last night was that a lot of Louisvilles shots were way off. Long shots that miss can bounce funny anyway, and that is compounded with bad misses... More misses = more chances for offensive rebounds."
Our team can't be expected to effectively rebound long shots or shots that are bad misses as they are unpredictable. Also, if the other team misses shots, that gives them more chances at offensive rebounds. Our defense is not even allowed to get offensive rebounds. So really, offensive rebounds are not a good stat for a team. I had not thought about it this way so I'm glad someone pointed it out.

So were all those bad shots we took in the second half really just an attempt to increase our offensive rebound numbers? I'm thinking CBB knows that we win more often if we win the offensive rebound numbers, so he told all the guys to throw up bricks every chance they could!

Not sure what poster(s) FM is referring to, but I do know that i posted about it last night. Or maybe this morning. Either way, it's odd, but it's a real thing.
Should have they gotten that many, probably not. But I really had to laugh at how badly they missed some of their shots and effectively it turned into a pass. Granted, I haven't watched Louisville at all this year. But I highly doubt it's a strategy.

Sounds like the visitors goal was adjusted too tight causing long rebounds. Someone should notify the janitors at Littlejohn to losen the visitor's goal to allow for shorter rebounds. This will need to be done at the beginning of each half.

I actually think if the game gets close, and we went back to that 6 men in the game strategy, we could "in theory" get more rebounds. The extra man could be assigned to rebound only and wouldn't even need to jog down the court on offense.

shoot three's to eliminate the very bad misses. Then you are left with makes, and near misses, meaning we would outrebound our opponents. Hopefully, Brownell is drawing this up for the players.
