I believe the Braves will live to regret in a major league financial way

that they did not resign Dansby Swanson. He was very solid at SS and his OBS, and hits have increased. There is no one in the bravo’s organization that can fill DS’s shoes unless the Braves make a major trade.
Despite what the media reported Dansby tried his best to give the Braves a Hometown discount. He lowered his initial demand of $166 million to stay with Atelanta. Who ever blew this deal should be demoted to lining the field. This is not as bad as the worse trade in Braves history. The infamous Brett Butler trade. But is is as bad as the Braves signing Andy Messersmith. He bounced on and off the IL until the Dodgers sent him packing.
Messersmith was able to cash in. He signed with the Atlanta Braves, receiving a three year contract worth $1 Million. As his previous high in salary had been $90,000 in 1974, Messersmith received the payout he desired.
Dansby was growing into a team leader and a consistent producer with his bat. He was already had great hands and foot work.
Have a great season Cubbies!

They sunk a lot of money into Acuna and Olson

extended Riley, the Albies contract is a steal. I think they believe Grissom is the guy for the future, and he's very highly rated. Doesn't help they signed Ozuna to a bad, big contract and have the most expensive backup catcher in the game in d'Arnaud

Grissom will never be the anchor as the Braves SS. He can hit. But he can’t field the position. Over the coarse of a season he may be responsible for giving up to the opponent an average of 1 run per game. IMO he is a utility player at best. With Dansby at SD for the Braves they could have a 4 to 6 game lead over the Mets. The old Braves of the 90’s would have invested in DS.
Now I believe that will not only pay more than Dansby’s original demand they will have to cough up at least 1 maybe 2 top prospects to fill that Hole when the July trade deadline comes up.
Who in their farm system is ready to move up to the big club to be the long term anchor at short ?? I don’t know of anybody.
DS was just starting to find his grove. Now he is using it in Chicago.

All comes down to $$$

Braves aren't a top echelon financial team, not a huge market, are a high mid market. They also have to be looking at what it will take to extend the likes of Strider, Harris and a few others. Grissom will hit, the question is can he handle SS. I think they're content with him and Arcia when he returns for the time being. Who exactly is looking to deal anyone better?
Only so much money to go around. Dansby would have given them 3 long term contracts in excess of 150 million. And there is no way Grissom costs the a run a game, that's ludicrous. That would be a -162 defensive rating. Horrible defenders are -20

I like Dans and agree he’s a great leader but I don’t think he’s worth that kinda money. Teams lost their minds in SS deals this off-season. They’ll find a suitable replacement. Not sure it’s Grissom though.

I believe that the braves will find a decent replacement and save money in the process. They may have already with Arcia, he was off to a really good start. If he plays his typical defense and hits 240 he’s just as good as Swanson was for the first 6 years he was in Atlanta. I think Grissom’s bat will force them to find him a spot on the roster, I don’t think it will be at short though.

Arcia has a .911 OBPS compared to Swanson's .751. As of now, the Braves made the right call***

They can save the money they offered Swanson and add it to whatever Fried will want when he hits the market. Rather have a Ace lefty pitcher in his mid 30s then a SS. Some of these mega deals teams are handing out to middle infielders are gonna be real bad at the back end of them.

Thought it was a great move financially. Personally did not see that kind of money for the guy. Liked him but the Braves will be fine and hopefully put that savings to good use.
BTW money in pro sports is beyond ridiculous.

Dansby is not worth the money he was demanding is what it comes down to… and I would understand if he was the one and only part to keep them in the World Series talks but he’s just not that guy… he would be awesome to have but this lineup is loaded and in my opinion when healthy is the best lineup in baseball 1-9. Ozuna is where we screwed up but at the time when the talks of the dh were coming it sounded like a no brained with the year he had that season so I don’t blame the contract ozuna just fell off… which happens in mlb and could with anyone. I wouldn’t be surprised if arcia (who is a #### good fielder and was hit with the bat before he got hurt ) is very capable at SS… every lineup has holes I don’t care where you look but when healthy even without dansby the Braves have the smallest said hole in lineup imo. When healthy throw in one of the best overall pitching staffs in baseball and that’s the reason they are still like 1-2 in the power rankings bc ppl see it. Point is dansby was wanting too much money for his streaky hitting and losing him doesn’t keep us from winning the WS imo
