Freshmen Quarterbacks
Freshmen Quarterbacks Deshawn Watson comes into the 2014 season as one of the nation's top freshman quarterbacks but he also knows the difficulty freshmen have at the position.
We are seeing more and more freshmen playing the position and several have been ultra-successful. Jameis Winsto

Would make me happy for Watson to redshirt -why? It would mean Stout is being very successful and as a team we are taking care of business. I know people want to see him but why waste a year on mop-up duty? If he leaves after his junior year, we still only get 3 years as a starter.

Cole will embarrass those who whine about losing Tajh and long for Watson.

Not sure I follow that logic. If Watson's as good as they say he is, there's a good chance he'll leave after 3 years. Assuming he doesn't start this year, we only get 2 years of him starting whether he redshirts this year or not.
If that's the case, we'd be much better off not redshirting him and letting him at least play in mop-up duty. He needs some live game experience to help prepare him better for the starting role next year.
A redshirt year still counts toward the 3 years of college that are required before turning pro. We might as well guarantee that we get at least 3 years out of him.

Watson will NOT redshirt, no matter what

Since Chad Kelly was sent packing, Watson is the #2 guy. He won't RS now. Besides, there's no need to RS him. He'll only be here 3-4 yrs anyways. There was absolutely zero chance of him staying 5 yrs. So, no need to RS him.

Watson still looks a bit frail to me, raising my fears that he could get injured.

you sir are correct. Watson needs to redshirt but dabo and chad can not afford to. he is our backup NOW and starter next year. he is one play from being the starter now and for the next 3 years. he was hurt on the first few plays he had live in spring practice! kid really needs time to mature and develop. I sure hope he does not turn into the second coming of willy corn. and by the way, next year his backup will also be a true freshman!
