Watching the Liberty Wake game

Sep 21, 2022, 9:42 PM

Wake’s D is porous as a sieve.

They catch a hail mary to get a first down on the last scoring drive, tied at 30. Then they let Liberty drive down and catch a lucky TD.

I think Liberty should have tied it and forced OT.

Not scared of their D nor of their O.

The only concern ...

...will be how to scrape their entrails out of our cleats. Gee-Haw'd!

GoTiguhs!!

But I am a little scared of OUR offense

I think we beat Wake and wouldn’t be surprised if we thrash them. But if we finally play as badly as we have generally “looked” thus far, we will lose. Honestly, we often look like an offense on life support. But I think we win 37-27.

That is encouraging, but if someone watched our game against Furman, they might be equally encouraged. Go tigers!

I watched a little bit of Wake vs. Vandy and a bit of Wake vs. Liberty and well: "I am not sitting here shaking in my boots worried"!
But, Wake could beat us if we do not play well. Like most CFB teams. If we help them with turnovers and not pay attention on 3rd and 4th down and give them extended drives. It could get hairy.

The offense should be able to run the ball on Wake!

I am not putting too much stock into the Liberty game.

This could possibly be one of those true times where a team was looking past the opponent in front of them at the game beyond.

I will say this...

Hartman is a very capable QB and if the Clemson D doesn't get more pressure on him than it did against the La Tech QB last weekend, Hartman will throw for 400+ yards. The Clemson defense pressured him relentlessly last year (Hartman was sacked seven times) and he still threw for 300+ yards and two TD's.

Being a Clemson fan for over 40 years I have had my share of disappointing moments against Wake. I will admit I was very worried about playing against Sam Hartman and still am to a certain extent. The guy is a great QB in their system. He can throw and run. Something that has been an Achilles for us in the past. However, as the week has progressed and I think about all of Dabo's teams they all get better after a few weeks of play. These next two games are arguably the toughest opponents we may face before the playoffs. With orange-colored glasses I now can see us winning by 17. I hope my glasses are right.

I just hope our defense rises to the challenge. We have the most talented defense in the country and it’s time to let it show.
