before the season is complete are 2 different things. There's a trend so far this year with our guys sneaking that little quitting part in with the NFL announcement.
I will not use the term "opting out." That was something invented during covid. It doesn't apply anymore.

Oh , please. These guys have worked their ##### off and given all for the Tigers. They are not quitting, just preparing for the future.

And the universities have paid them thousands and thousands of $sfor an education and l in most case ensured they got a degree and some even graduate degress. They need to fulfill their obligations.

For the ones entering the portal to go ahead and do it now is definitely better so the coaches know what the numbers are before early signing day. A spot opens up now and Dabo and Co. Can make final pitches to other guys in the portal they might be after or high school seniors that they can now offer with an open scholarship.

Can't blame someone who's going pro for not wanting to play in a bowl game. Now if it were a playoff game then I'd understand being upset about it.

I would not play in a useless bowl if I was projected to the NFL either... it's not quitting... jeesh. Why put your product at risk, the source of revenue is your body and your football IQ... opens the door for other guys to get playing time.
Bowl games are nothing more than exhibition games anymore... 3 weeks of practice the non-bowl teams don't get and a trip somewhere to have fun...
Next year will be different with the 12-team playoff...

Why would it be different for a 12 team playoff.
If you believe it is about the $, then why play in the playoffs.

Players leaving early may actually hurt our chances of winning a bowl game - but it actually helps the program move forward - giving 3 weeks of intensive practice to the players who will be carrying the team forward.
Plus these guys have more than earned the right to do what is best for their and their family's future.

Why not do away with the bowls and only have the playoffs. The players could care less about the fans or teams. In fact, why not just cancel football altogether for college and pro sports. Let High School be the farthest you can play. That way no one can complain about NIL ruining the sport, like it is. I say no one buys tickets or donate to their school, from here on out. That would put responsibility back on universities to pay for them. Free meal, education, rent, clothes, stipends, and not enough for them. Redicolous, that money has taken a precedence over the game we all love.

Yes players have been quitting since sports began. But they only recently started using the phrase opting out. As if it's not quitting, but an ok thing that respected people do.
Here's a simple test
"I'm leaving the team. Does that count as quitting?"
Are you hurt? No
Is the season over? No
Then you are quitting.
