Dutch Oven

Greenr has a decent stainless set of cooking pots and pans he has used since he got married in 2005. One thing he never got was a nice ceramic dutch oven. Any suggestions? Does he NEED to go all-in with the Le Creuset cookware, or are there decent options at a fraction of the cost. Please understand, Greenr is no chef, but he knows his way around a kitchen. Not using stainless every time will really be beneficial AND this would be something he could throw directly into the oven after using it on the stove-top. Thanks in advance for all the great suggestions and the bag of dicks that I am hopeful at least one of you will suggest he eats.

Last time I remember this discussion in the Junge, the Costco Kirkland brand had switched from Le Creuset (assumed) to Tramontina (I think). So, like maybe grab one of those for $80 or whatever they cost rather than $300 for the Le Creuset, and see how you like it, and if it wears out or the enamel chips in a couple years, then you'll understand why people spend the $300. Or maybe it doesn't chip or wear out at all, and you saved a buncha money.

I used to think you needed expensive knives until I heard some Michelin chefs talking about how they get literally everything from the chef supply store. A sharpener will make a $10 knife just as sharp as a $500 Japanese master folded Damascus steel one. Only difference is if it wears out, I’ll toss that #### in the woods without a second thought and go get a new one.

It looks pretty sitting on my stovetop but I use it all the time. A lot of the cookware snobs will say that Le Creuset doesn't make them make them like they used to.

I hear Lodge makes a good reasonably priced one. I had one from the Macys martha stewart line for years and have zero complaints. I don't really think the Le Creuset performs any better. Cons of the cheaper one was that it wasn't as pretty to sit on the stovetop and so I had to lift it in and out of the bottom cabinets and it was super heavy.
