Is the rest of this state absolutely blind?

Spurrier "suspends" Garcia by allowing him to practice one-on-one with a coach on the sidelines.
Spurrier goes behind Hyman's back and tries to release Richardson from his suspension, publically.
Spurrier "suspends" Mitchell from fall practice by letting him do everything the players do, just without a helmet.
Spurrier over-signs players only to just dump them when he feels like it via a few Dear-John letters.
His players get arrested. His players say things like "back like cooked crack." His players (apparently) don't go to class.
He calls "someone" in "the upstate" a liar, when our coaches have said nothing and he blatantly manipulates the truth at every opportunity. He calls a Harvard professor "kid."
This man has zero values, and he's out for nothing but a personal ego trip. He cares nothing for the game, and nothing for his players. He just wants to go out there and entertain himself by acting like an ###.
He's arrogant. He covers up for his players (I'll repost my story from a few weeks ago if you don't believe that one). He lies to his recruits and the media, yet accuses others of lying.
Simply put, Spurrier is a son of a #####. I hope he rots in hell.

that is all that really matters. USC, like most schools, will tolerate all sorts of malfeasance if the bottom line is satisfactory because that's where the money is. He won at Duke, he won at Florida, and he will win at USC--ethically or not, the W's do add up, and the "program" supposedly improves, and the rabid fan could not care less.

He's a ######. He is a good coach, but will not win an SEC championship nor do better than .500 against Clemson.
Still likely to go down as greatest ever of their pathetic program however.

[ in reply to Re: Is the rest of this state absolutely blind? ] |

Sorry. I'm not some bandwagon guy at work who needs something to talk about around the water cooler.
I'm actually a fan of Clemson, and that means the school. Not just the football team.
I'd rather win 7-9 wins, have an outstanding graduation ratio, little to no off-the-field incidents, very few arrests, players who say "sir" and "ma'am," and a coach who actually pays attention to all the players on the team (meaning he challenges the non-NFL talent guys to have outstanding character) than anything even halfway resembling Spurrier.
When you are responsible for a multi-million dollar industry and over 100 kids, I would hope you would display something even remotely resembling values and responsiblity.
Spurrier, unfortunately, is out for his own person gain, and doesn't gave a crap about anything but himself. I feel sorry for all those kids on his team who won't make it to the NFL. They're on a pathway that's soon to be very long and very difficult.

Who gives a crap about wins when you are talking about kid's lives?
I would forfeit 100 years worth of wins to South Carolina if it meant that every single football player that came through Clemson went on to lead successful working and family lives.
The reason Spurrier acts the way he does and the reason the players on your school's team are as stupid and immoral as they are is because of your school's inability to recognize that values are important and because fans like you would sacrifice those kid's personal successes for a couple of W's.

have no control over their situations. They have the right to choose whatever they want to do.
It's not the job of a coach to hold the hand of the players as they cross the street, and make every decision for them.

No, it's not his job to hold their hand across the street, but you're being dumb enough to think of things in only extreme cases.
If they are under scholarship for the football team and Spurrier is under contract as maintaining the football team, they are his responsibility.
A 15 year old can do whatever he wants, but does that mean the parents shouldn't be responsible for him?
Please don't procreate with that mentality.

It's absurd to think that an 18 year old is a full-grown adult capable of making responsible decisions.
Ok, I'll use a better analogy or two for your mentally challenged brain.
Is a boss at work not responsible for his employees?
Is a teacher at school not responsible for his students?
Is a babysitter not responsible for children?
Is a university not responsible for its teachers?
Is a doctor not responsible for his patients?
Is a zookeeper not responsible for his animals?
D@mn, you're dumb. Responsibility carries more than a legal tie.
But keep it up, boy. It brings a smile to my face when I realize that South Carolina is the filter for those pursuing an education at Clemson.

because in your original post you call out spurier for a immoral/classless person. Then you go on to say "I hope he rots in hell". Where is the class in that?
You generally add nothing to the conversation other than acting like we're in middle school again.

It depends on which you are talking about.
Aug 5, 2007, 6:19 PM
|

In any case, I think that anyone that presumes to know how Spurrier feels about his players and vice versa is not going to have an open mind anyway.
Some Gamecock fans probably think that Spurrier is like a father to every player om the team, while many of you think that Spurrier is pure evil. As I have said on here all day the truth is somewhere in the middle.
Larry Kennedy (former Gator under Spurrier) is on the radio in Charlotte very often and his comments about Spurrier are 180 degrees opposite of what 'face' says in his initial post. But you'll never convince 'face' of that. He knows Spurrier like he's his best friend. He is apparently in the locker room for all the inside discussion. Ok... maybe he isnt... but you better believe that he knows Spurrier inside and out.

Here is the question:
Are you okay with the way that Spurrier has handled the "suspension" of his players?
From reading your posts on Tigernet for however long, I'd suspect the answer is that you are not thrilled. But, I'm interested to know if that is correct.

The Mitchell suspension along with the others
Aug 5, 2007, 6:36 PM
|
|
for missing class in my opinion is fine.
I felt like Garcia should have been let go. Matthews should probably be suspended for the first week or two of pre-season workouts. He likely wasn;t gong to play the first few games anyway so what good does it do to suspend him for that.
I tend to take things an indident/player at a time. I don't assume (whether it's USC. Clemson, UGA, or anywhere else) that every situation is identical, or that any incident is representative of the entire institution.
