Acc could ask WV to join the ACC

I mean if nobody leaves then WV is just on a island by itself. WV would fit a lot better in the ACC as well with Pitt being a huge rivialry. I know it would be for less money, but then you add a ND and redo the tv contract. The big 12 really wouldn't have to many other option to expand at that point.

WVU tried to get in the ACC last year and UNC blocked them. Why would they try again? Plus too much has changed since last year. No way they leave the money the Big XII is about to demand for what the ACC is getting, not to mention the Big XII is considered one of the "Big 4" now.

We missed that one. The reason was "academics" at the time.

are not officially a member of the big12ish yet and they would have to move nowhere.
not saying it's going to happen, but desperate times, desperate measures if the acc is trying to gain some traction.

Sad thing is I could see the ACC taking Tulane, they've got a solid academic reputation and weak athletics, which seems to be what Swofford wants.

Sorry, but I don't see WVU as anything to write home to mom about. Yeh - they beat the ever-loving crap out of us, but that one game doesn't make them all that. I just don't see the ACC"s expansion as having a lot of positives. Pitt, SU, etc just doesn't add anything major that I want to see in the ACC. The ACC will continue to be a basketball conference. We can't make a Porsche out of a Volkswagen.

We had our chance....but then they were deemed "not academically worthy" by the powers that be. WVU is a fine school. Sure, they like to have a good time, but they are fully accredited and have a Medical School. WVU's rep is, easy to get into, hard to stay. Same curriculum as anywhere else.

As a WVU grad....

....who has been perusing this board for the past week, I can tell you that ACC was definitely WVU's first choice. Our AD truly believes in the close geographic proximity of colleges in a sports conferences - especially because it is best for the student athletes. However, that ship has sailed.
Before we accepted the Big 12 invitation, a last ditch effort was made by the WVU administration with the ACC which involved a flight down to Greensboro and calls to several schools. The NC schools shut us down. My understanding is that the football schools were in our corner. As earlier posted, it was our academics that kept us out of the ACC. Apparently we can educate the former president of MIT and CEO of Cisco, but that was not good enough.
Even if we were to have secured an ACC membership, there was still the uncertainty of the SEC and Big 12 poaching the football schools. So we joined the conference that offered us membership and has ended up being the most stable. We finally feel that we are in a stable conference and it is nice to not have to worry about conference realignment this go around. lt has been one long road of uncertainty since the ACC took Miami, VaTech and BC.
I am rooting for Clemson and FSU to join the Big 12. I attended a couple of Clemson football games on the mid 90s and had a great time. Death Valley is an awesome atmosphere. And based on our Big 12 "membership" experience, I bet your administration will not announce anything until a deal is inked - look at what almost happened with Louisville right before WVU's membership was confirmed. Good luck!

And congrats to you on the a$$ kicking WVU put on us this year in the Orange Bowl. We wish WVU the best moving forward and hope to get some payback on the football field some time soon. Take care ..
