Visiting band location

Please help me out. I remember back in the late 80’s, the visiting band sat in the North upper deck. I cannot remember when the change was made to move the visiting band to the West end zone. Can any of you remember more on visiting band locations at DV?

I seem to recall the opposing team band sitting near the visitor’s tunnel in olden days, but I could be mistaken. Go Tigers!

I had season tickets for 46 years and I never remember the visiting band being anywhere but in the West End Zone.

Up until around 1996, the visiting sections in the lower deck were KK, K, V and the lower half of W. The other teams bands sometimes sat in KK and sometimes in the lower half of W. After 1996, the visiting sections were solely around the visiting team's entrance/exit (bottom sections of S, T, V and W). The other team's band sitting in KK was rare. I know GT sat there in 1992, SC in 1996, and I think UGA was seated there in 1987.
The other team's bands have never been seated in the upper deck. The only thing I can think of is we had a High School band day that I missed and we put them up there?

Thanks you so much for the clarification. I am curious now what my seat location was at the time. I know that it was on the North side but, I don’t remember ever having lower bowl tickets on that side. I requested the ticket change because I did not want my dad to have another heart attack at the stadium. I wanted our seats moved because I did not want to him to have to listen to the chicken band the entire game.

Like others, I don’t believe the visiting band has ever been in the upper deck. I have been in the west end zone for the last 15 years and I hate constantly hearing the visiting band, especially Fla State and Carolina. With the new visiting seat allocation going from 2000 to 500 I hope they are forced to put the band somewhere else. I’m thinking they will use the 500 seats for player parents and VIPs. 🤞🤞

If the band was in the upper deck it was the visiting schools choice, they get their allotment, how they distribute is up to them.

Like others have said, I don't recall a visiting team's band ever sitting in the upper deck.
I do have a memory of one year in early 1980s UGa's band was sitting in temporary bleachers behind some of the trees in the NE part of the hill that used to exist before they filled in the corners with concrete seating area. You could hear the Redcoat band but could not see them well. It was hilarious.
I also want to say that the UGa band ate in a cordoned off area of Harcombe before the game. When word got out the UGA band was in the dinning hall, a near riot broke out.

The visiting school chooses how their own ticket allotment will be disbursed.. one year many years ago the Georgia Band just showed up…. Without seating and they were moved to the upper deck… since we have allowed so many seats in the past? Easily enough numbers for the bands to sit near the field … with only 500 now? And the rest in upper deck? That 500 is going to be staff families and player families…

What year was this? I find it hard to believe UGA’s band just showed up unannounced. The schools are 80 miles apart so both bands are always at every game and that’s never a surprise. Also, these games were sellouts bc of the rivalry so even if they had just shown up there would not have been an open section to accommodate them.
North upper deck was finished in 1983 and I’m pretty sure I’ve not missed a UGA game at Memorial Stadium during this time. The ‘ol memory ain’t what it used to be but I really don’t think we had UGA or any band in either upper deck.

I was there at the 81 game. Uga band was above the vistor side of the hill behind the big oak tree. What happen was Uga gave all there tickets to their big donors and forgot about their band. Vince Dooley called Danny on Friday before the game to see if they could find a space for their band. Clemson brought in temporary stands for them and placed them just on between the tree and sidewalk.

Thanks for the clarification. So different than the norm, but not an “upper deck”.
Imagine the two head coaches dealing with such administrative issues today. A different era back then for sure.

Back in much of the late 70's and 80's the visiting band and visitors were in the "lower" North Stands closest to the hill around the 15 or 20. Tiger Band was in the opposite corner of the hill from where it is now. Prior to that Tiger Band was over further over in the student section in the South Stands around the 20 but closer to the top of the lower stands.
I went to games since I was 8 and I don't ever remember a visiting band sitting in the Upper Deck unless it was a one time thing.

I remember a few isolated games when the opposing band was in the upper deck. But I seem to recall that this was because they had previously put our band in the upper deck.

I don’t remember a visiting band ever being in the upper deck and I’ve been attending games before there were upper decks.
I was in West and just give up my tickets after 40 years because they moved us from 2 rows from the top to immediately behind the visiting band to accommodate the new club. I did the math and the club would cost us $45k over 3 years. I don’t have that. From my new seats you can’t even see the video board let alone the field when a full opponent band shows up - like SCAR, GaTech and UGA.
So much for Clemson IPTAY or athletics loyalty. I still love my tigers and I’m a Clemson grad so still give my money to the academic fund. One day IPTAY may need us back but we won’t be there and nether will my children.
