Personally, I need more info before I decide whether this move is brilliant or colossally stupid.

network in the planning stages, not to mention being able to pit EZPN, NBC and Fox against each other in a bidding war. ND will be a football member. Then the ACC becomes rather wealthy. I'm guessing this is why the Big 12 deal fell through.

ND has ZERO reason to pull football in...what makes you think they will? That would be incredulously stupid on their part.

But college football is changing fast, in leaps and bounds. Today's reality is likely to mean nothing in a few years. I know it's heresy to suggest it on T-net, but Barker and the rest of the ACC presidents may be taking the long view here...

what could change that would make it any different? Their road to the NC just got easier with a 4 team playoff that doesn't require conference championship and also gives ND an automatic look. What could change? They up it to 8 teams? Better for ND. They up it to 16? Better for ND....
They have no reason toa dd FB. They just played Swoffie, barker and the rest of the ACC like a fiddle.
Like a woman at the bar showing you some leg to get a drink and once she's got the drink you never get so much as a kiss....

Any kind of "special treatment" by the playoff committee. Conference championships are still a consideration.

Why would the ACC bring them in without an agreement of future football membership? I can easily see ND making more money in the future as a full member.

Same reason as the Big East took them in. When NBC pays up (and they say they will), Notre Dame will make lots more money as a football independent than as a conference member.

Time will tell. You've jumped to a lot of conclusions and you've stated them with a lot of certainty. I can very well see a future in 2 years or so where ND is a full member, the ACC has added a 16th team and Clemson is in a very good position within the cfb landscape.

I hope you're right. If that happens it will be a genius move. unfortunatly there is no reason at all to believe that will happen. This was a basketball move period. And even if the ACC *thinks* ND will consider, they have another thing coming.
You can take it to the bank. ND will not join the ACC in football at least within the next 7 seasons and never will as long as their path to the BCS stays the same in the playoff format. If I'm wrong I'll come back and admit to it like I always do.
This was the dumbest move in all of college sports.

I AM gonna give you the main reason right now.. ND realizes that they will never get a BCS invite if they dont join a league, they will be left at the alter

Based on what? Swarbick was the main champion of the new playoff system. Nd has a better shot now at the BCS than they did 4 months ago....

conference membership would pay them more than NBC will. That's very unlikely, especially since NBC has said they will pull out all the stops to keep ND. With ND being IT for NBC as far as college football is concerned, they can afford to pay up.

They very well might make more money as a full ACC member. We have no idea what kind of negotiations have gone before this decision. There may be a huge deal in the works for an ACC Network.

man even stated that is one of the reason for the move to the ACC...We have our own TEXAS now. They keep their money and share in ours, yep that's a great deal BOT!
The move to the ACC does not affect Notre Dame's longstanding partnership with NBC Sports. The change in affiliation is "essentially revenue neutral," Swarbrick said. "Financial implications were not a motivation."

Only time will tell what kind of negotiations went into this deal. It could be huge. If not, it should eventually come out that certain univ. presidents were against ND joining.

not if Nd gave them all the idea that they would consider joining....Nd is just desperate to get out of the big east....I don't see them having any plans to bring in FB other than the 5 games. They got what they wanted. ND is benefitting a great deal from this without providing anything to the ACC. Why would they change that?

what did Barker get out of this for us? typical roll over and cave in negotiation CU has been involved in for years. except this time we were stupid enough to carry the conferences water. the ACC which has done so much for us over they years. oops- to us over the years

be satisfied with anything aside from joining the SEC. And who knows if that was even a real option for us?
I think this is a good move for the ACC, and if Clemson's bet option right now is to remain in the ACC, then it's a good move for us too.

Just using common sense man. If ND knows 100% that they would make more they would already announce their entry to the ACC in 2016....they're not doing that. Why? because it would be dumb on their part to give up that kind of money.
