Good win by Clemson.

But, it doesn't change my opinion of the inept play of the secondary.
I think y'all know me well enough to know I'm not posting this as some Nole Troll stopping by to whine about how lucky Clemson was. Clemson was the far better of two very mediocre (and that is being kind to FSU) teams.
Clemson secondary played no better than last week. Busted coverage. Letting guys behind them. Wide open guys in midfield. The difference is Duke took advantage of that, FSU didn't.
Two plays early in the game. 4th and 1 and the TE drops a perfect pass with no one within 20 yards of him. 7 points. WR (#4) 5 yards behind the safety and the QB overthrows him 8 yards. 7 points.
I still like (not love, but like) the play of the front 7. But, the back 4, geez! I can't believe any of the DB coaches are still employed.

I think it was one of the lowest quality displays of football I’ve ever seen. Flipping back and forth between the Bama game and this was like watching two different sports.

Just when I thought we were converting you to a tiger you go and see things from an FSU perspective. JK, btw I think you are spot on with your perceptions. Now the real question is will Louisville and or South Carolina be able to take advantage of our secondary like Duke did?

But I hope ya’ll keep little Mike and his staff in Tally for a long time.

Everyone knows Mike will be fired. The only question is...
Nov 9, 2025, 2:21 PM
|

.... when will the announcement be made.
Coaches had their regular meeting today at 12:30. I was hoping that we would hear something before that meeting. I got out of church and checked the Nole Websites. I was hoping there was a post of "A team meeting has been called for 2:00 pm" or something similar.
The normal Sunday procedure is for the two coordinators meet with the press at 5:00 PM today. If they walk out and stand behind the mics then we will know no announcement will be made this week.
Virtually all of us are hoping the announcement will come before 5:00.

Probably not for long. Interestingly both those coaches were not provided extentions or bumps in pay that were approved for others after reaching the playoff last season. My guess is they’ve known where they stood all this year. When Dabo talks about instincts perhaps trusting himself to move on from them as Tom Allen arrived would have been a better decision.

Hindsight being 20/20 and if Dabo would be honest with the fans (some things needs to stay in house) he would have done a few things differently last off season.

I cannot either. Worst secondary that I can remember since Bowden was coaching.

Honestly I don’t think you can lump Hampton and Terrell into that. They have been solid for the most part. Hampton is still learning. It is the safety play. Honestly I believe the talent is there with a few of them. Mentally the safeties have to be better.
LB play has not been good outside of Brown.

Tough loss Brett. I think many of us understand FSU aided in the margin of victory last night with allot of mistakes and drops.
My neighbors in Minneapolis are FSU grads and my wife was asking if I was going to watch with them. I was like nope. Both teams are not very good so i will just watch by myself.
It is a shame both of our programs are in the state they are in.

Agree on the assignment busts. They have plagued this team most of the season.

You are 110% correct. FSU gave us that one on a silver platter. Do you think this will cost Norvell his job?

I agree. Secondary won't cover. It's so bad it looks like a conscious decision. I would also add the OL is terrible. How many times the RB was tackled for next to nothing by 5 FSU defenders and there are 5 Clemson OLinemen standing by themselves with their hands on their hips. FSU did more to lose the game than we did. I'm happy we won (we needed it) but I'm not exactly filled with confidence moving forward.

His team looked about the same.
It’s obvious between the two teams which one has quit and which one is still giving their all.

Sounded like it in his press conference too. I saw zero passion what little I got to see on the fsu sidelines. Think you nailed it, fsu looked like they were just going through the motions knowing the coaching staff is gone.
I suppose it's only natural that a lot of the kids are thinking about what they're going to do, enter portal etc.

Even before the game I noticed his demeanor was atypical of him. I even asked, on a Nole board, if anyone else thought he looked like he had already been told he was fired.

Good morning Bret. Think we discussed in your preview that this game could be a slugfest, or a blowout by either team. It came down to what I thought it would, whichever team that made the least mistakes.
Our first drive was really, imo, the highlight of the game from a football standpoint. I'm not that shocked. There's a reason both are 4-5. Both can look like champions and both can leave you shaking your head.
But since you brought up the secondary, I thought one of the biggest busts was cades prayer he threw to Williams. The fsu cb didn't even make an effort on the ball. He turns to locate the ball, it's probably an int. He didn't even jump to contend the catch, nor made any effort to knock the ball out.
I know Dabo loves to reference the candy and nuts and a few plays etc but imo fsu really did beat themselves. Certainly no anomaly both teams play like their 4-5 record.

You are spot on, sir. Happy to win for sure, but not happy about our secondary play. Much better in the second half, I must say… but still nowhere up to standard.

The missed ints were the worst.

If they were made we wouldn’t have people like you bringing up FSUs dropped passes. It’s part of the game. You either seize those opportunities or you don’t. Both teams missed opportunities.
To your point we definitely need to make some serious changes in the secondary starting with coaching.

Yes. I told my wife last night that if FSU’s receivers could catch it would have been a completely different game. But a win is a win and I’ll take it.

& there were definitely some reasons why they should've (that dropped pass on 4th down attempt where receiver was gonna be running wild & free being 1).
Seen somewhere on Twitter someone saying Conn & Reed had their responsibilities reduced starting this week, but w/o any credible sources to verify, take that w/ grain of salt.
Clemson O did just enough to win (some of the later playcalling was headscratching), & our D did a good job affecting Castellanos, taking away his run threat & pressuring him. & despite the coverage issues still persisting, almost had a couple more INTs besides the 1 late that helped ice the game.
Hoping soon our Tigers & your Noles get their acts back together b/c would love to get back to a good ol' knockdown-dragout contest w/ ACC/CFP stakes sooner rather than later.
