Venables storyline

Dec 10, 2024, 8:42 PM

We might get Jimmy Greenbeans playing scout team QB this week and next to help our Tigers take down OU's most hated rival, the Longhorns.

He will be breaking down film with Wes and Tyler (his son) trying to help the defense get ready to pitch a shut out against UT.

I can not confirm it, but I can not deny it either.... a man can dream.

Word on the street is he can make it if his "get back coach" can make it.

The two differences between a Venables D and a Wes D is Venables had more talent to work (pre-NIL)with plus a complimentary offense.

I think those two points are true, but I believe Venables was a much better in-game coach...

You may be correct as CBV is an excellent coach.

Different mentalities. One was attack and make their qb make quick decisions. Bend but don’t break type of defense. My opinion one works better in college other works better in nfl.

My thought is mentality is based on the personnel available. Leaving your comers on an island is good if you have a DL who can get to the passer quickly. If not, it is a losing strategy as the best comers can only hold up so long. Folks want to fire Wes after holding the coots to their 2nd lowest point total of the season. Our D looked suspect in the 2nd half against SMU but were essentially on the field the entire half against a very good offense. Perhaps Wes needs to be replaced but I have not seen a reasoned argument supporting it. I am sure Dabo will do what is needed either way
