Venables Question

I’ll preface this by saying I don’t believe it’ll happen within the next few years but who knows with the state of CFB and crazy boosters but..
What are the odds that BV would come back to Clemson if Oklahoma buys him out? Personally I think Oklahoma gives him another 2-3 years to try and fix the offense but you never know these days. You think Dabo would try and get him back on staff or would he take a DC job elsewhere, I like Wes, I think he’s growing as a DC and that we have no reason to try and push him out the door. But Venables is also arguably the greatest coordinator Clemson has ever had.

Also, couldn't just fire a good DC just to bring BV back.

Odds are very good that he would come back as DC. HIS SONS PLAYED FOR CLEMSON AND HIS DAUGHTER GREW UP IN CLEMSON. HE MAY EVEN STILL OWN HIS HOUSE ON HARTWELL. PLUS, HE AND DSBO WERE VERY CLOSE FRIENDS. BV WAS AN OUTDTANDING RECRUITER AS WELL AS DC.

Agree, I think we were so blessed to have him, but I think that ship has sailed for good, but man we had him for so long which was awesome…. It’s really a miricale that Dabo was able to keep him here and happy, and a testament to CVB character

I think as long as Goodwin is here he wouldn’t come back as more as an analyst at best and that would be highly surprising. He still has a house here and loves the area so I would expect he will move back to the area barring being another HC job somewhere. Just don’t think Dabo would want to unsettle Goodwin. Now should Goodwin get lured away to somewhere else, I might see CBV back as DC but even then suspect the odds aren’t great.

Amen...WG is a first class D/C...the corrections we made at the end of the 1st half were as good as BV could do...I don't know why BV left to start with, except that itch to be a HC...Okie is a tough place to start...very high expectations! With SEC poison on the horizon!

I don’t see it. He went home to his dream job. If he gets axed I think he moves on somewhere new. He’s way too young and energetic to retire in the next 15 years. He may eventually realize Clemson is the one place he will forever be treated like a king but I think he wants to be in the mix of meaningful games in the SEC for the remainder of his career. I could see Bama backing up the armored car to be their DC paired with Deboer if the Tide defense continues to struggle.

Brent is already home at OU. He will either right the ship and get them back into the top 25 on a regular basis or Oklahoma will find another position for him in their athletic department (and avoid a huge payout)

My ideal situation would be have Co-DC. Venables down on the sidelines and Goodwin up top in the booth. Goodwin can call the plays in and Venables can be coaching it up on the sidelines and during breaks.
