Venables morning update. Sort of

I expected to wake up and have a hundred notifications on my phone this morning, but other than deadsolidperfect blowing me up on Twitter, it was fairly quiet. A little snooping this morning kind of confirmed what I said last evening - that Brent was around Clemson all day and is - allegedly - out on the road recruiting today. It is interesting to also note - as one person in the know told me - that if OU was going to meet with Brent it would more than likely be in Clemson at the Venables home unless he swung by Norman on his way home from the Jaren Kanak visit (I texted with Jaren last night, and we are supposed to connect after the visit).
What does all of this mean? I think it means nothing is done and I truly think he is weighing his decision. I have had to laugh at the OU people, who on Sunday night didn't want Venables (at least most of them), but when the rumors started flying Monday about him getting off a plane or being there, they decided he was their guy. And then the goofiness started, and he was bringing DJ and Bresee with him, and then he was bringing Cade Klubnik, and then one poster (and I swear he was serious) posited that he was also bringing Dabo.
Nikki was reading the boards and laughing, and said, "Well, Brent is taking all of those players, Dabo, every recruit from the last nine years, Deshaun Watson, Trevor Lawrence, the Esso Club, Lake Hartwell, Howard's Rock, and Brandon Streeter, Tony Elliott, Mike Reed, Todd Bates, Tommy West, Tommy Bowden, Bobby Bowden, and Bobby Boucher."
She was kidding. I think.

I’ve been contracted to move Clemson to Norman. The school, the town, the creeks, the roads…all of it.
On the upside, anyone that has completed 12 hours of classes at Clemson will be bestowed with an OU PhD.

Everything I am hearing is the Gator Bowl. The Wolfies played in the Gator last year and took their 472 fans to that game, so the Gator doesn't want a team back for a second year in a row. Those guys will get Orlando and Clemson to the Gator against possibly Texas A&M. Also heard Tennessee and Arky.

Arkansas and Tennessee don't excite me either. Would be nice to get someone new from Big Xii or B1G, but I guess that's unlikely at this point.

If he is still out recruiting defensive players for Clemson he has to be addressing these coaching rumors with them. I can't imagine BV sitting in a recruits home asking them to come to Clemson without addressing the elephant in the room. Seems to me some of these recruits he is visiting may could shed some light on things...

Dave, thanks for the update. From my perspective (and I have zero "sources") I would think that Oklahoma would put a proven head coach at the top of their priority list. (Matt Campbell is the obvious name. Heck, if Brian Kelly will leave ND for LSU would Luke Fickell be interested in a 10 million per year job in Norman?)
I know Venables name will be rumored for every P5 opening in the country as long as he is at Clemson (I even read one post somewhere that said "My sources tell that that Venables is a serious candidate at Duke.)
What is your "much better educated my mine gut" than mine telling you? Is Oklahoma seriously interested in Venables?

If and it is a BIG IF, coach V is OU number one choice and is offering him the job, I would suspect that any negoiations, contract, and particulars are now being handled by Coach V's agent. When it is agreed upon, he will be announced as OU HC. In the meantime, he is going to conduct business as usual since he is still a Clemson Tiger DC collecting a Clemson paycheck and will do all he can to help Clemson before he leaves. And IF he leaves, he will leave with Dabo's blessing. That's who they are.

Oklahoma is interested. But it has to be a fit for all party's. BV leverage is that he doesn't have to take this job. He can't wait another year. Something s always open. My concern would be my recruiting base has been on the east coast for a long time. Oklahoma team come from LA and Texas. Of course football is football no matter were you are.
But the money they're throwing at these guys is huge. You would have to take it, even if you know you ll only be there 4 years.
As soon as you win 7 games your gone. But at least you walk away with 50 Mill and just go back to being a DC. It's win win for BV
