comparing the 10-4 season that we backed into the ACC Championship game and 12-team playoff, and got boat raced multiple times during the season, to our legitimate playoff appearances from 2015-2020 during the four team error. Nothing to see here folks, everything is fine and there is no evidence at all of any decline!

don’t recall the winning part that we did, in fact we probably could have sewed it up ourselves that day by beating the Coots even with a Miami win, but we didn’t do that, so I do recall needing Miami to lose for us to make it there.
To "back into" a championship means to secure a tournament or playoff berth not by winning a final game, but by having another team lose. The term implies that the winning team backed in unintentionally or in a less-than-dominant fashion.

As usual, you won’t respond to the direct comment below. You got all angry last time and begged me to pose my question for the 11th time. You ignored it then, which I was 100 expecting.
It’s just who you are. And that’s ok.
Not sure what clemsonbluejay is, but ok.

Just all over the place as usual. I have no clue what comment you’re referring to, just like “you didn’t answer my question”. The only person who understands you is you.
Why the nee handle clemsonbluejay? Can you at least try to be more coherent with this one?
Please please try to make sense. What comment and what question? Don’t run like you did a few days ago.
You like to act like you know what you’re talking about, but that only exists in your mind.

There is no definition for “backing into” a playoff game. But if there was one, I’d go with Grok or Gemini, who both agree that Clemson backed in. We did not get there of our own doing, we did not possess the tiebreaker. Miami did. We were completely done with our game halfway into the Miami Syracuse first quarter. A non conference game. We had been done with the conference matchups for a week. We had zero control of our destiny.
At BEST it could be called a toss up whether we backed in or not. To call it looney someone would say we backed in is just not dealing with the commonly associated meaning of the two words “backed in” together.

Most just don't like to hear it, but anytime you have to rely on someone else to pull off an upset so you can get into a conf title game....its def backed into the ACC title game. We were never that great last year, we beat a lot of bad teams and lost to anyone with a slight pulse. Losing constantly at home and to SC at home back to back is highly unacceptable. The last few years this team give a lot of false hope with blowout wins against bad teams and now we're losing to avg/subpar teams...at home! It is what it is, but I always call it like I see it, others pump the sunshine and that's fine too. It'd be pretty boring if we all thought the same and agreed on everything.

Interesting Swinney chose not to mention the hot-button RB room. As far as the 2025 season, and playing freshmen, to quote Bob Dylan, "when you ain't got nothing, you ain't got nothing to lose."
Perhaps Coach will get the urge to play some of these younger players over the last 4 games without disturbing their RS status.

The Crockpot of Rat Poison

This is what got us here in the first place for 2025. Those who are in the crockpot are being developed by 21 non primary coaching staff members of which 19 of 21 have zero coaching experience. Such has been the case for a couple of seasons. It began with Wes Goodwin being promoted, and Streeter being fired. Those support staff coaches who aren't primary position coaches or coordinators are the ones who are supposed to add the ingredients and stir the proverbial crockpot. We're already seeing the hype train prepared to dump rat poison into the burning ears of the media again. This is no bueno! The player development support staff should consist of retired head coaches and longtime coordinators that no longer desire to be in the main spotlight. I will reiterate this again, the coordinators and position coaches are usually observing and coaching the 1st team reps in practice and during camp installs. This is why players are NOT developing year over year.
DEAD HORSE HAS BEEN BEATEN AND I AM NOT SATISFIED UNTIL COACH SWINNEY FIRES THE SUPPORT STAFF AND HIRES EXPERIENCED DEVELOPMENT COACHES!

Wes is a great analyst and a great development coach. He is not ready to take the controls of a defense as a whole unit. He needs more time in the crockpot under Venables and will be a dangerous coordinator in the next 3-5 years.

His record thus far is better than Garrett Riley's. So, in a sense, we went from bad to worse. In a way, I believe that Streeter should have been given a better chance. At least he had some seasoning prior to coming to coach at Clemson. He actually climbed the ladder to become a coordinator. Of the coaches currently on the roster, I would release Spiller and Grisham. Both are outstanding recruiters, but they do not develop the players year over year. They got to go because thus far all they've been doing is eating the groceries and not contributing to success.

You gotta give it to CDS, he is great at marketing his players. The only problem is that talk is not translating to on field performance. It makes it seems like CDS is coming off as a snake oil salesman trying to put syrup on sh!+ and tell you it's pancakes, and as a bonus he"ll try to convince you that a 1 eye 3 legged dog is responsible for it. It will be interesting to see how long before he's able to pull this off, but hey what do I know. Gotta give him credit it appears to working. He's clocking 11 million a year.

The problem is you are looking at one year , this year. When judging Swinney you have to look at His entire record. And yes what He has done in the past can be a good predictor of the future.
