Yeah, treatment of Americans in Paris and Marseille is far different than in the country, especially along the Normandy coast.

I’ve been 3 times although it’s been many years. I was treated very well in the country, in cities not so much unless I was with a native. I did learn this: speak softly, NEVER smile unless you are smiled at and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER attempt to speak French, not a single word. Point, shrug, say (softly) “I’m sorry, I don’t speak French.”

France is #1 in soccer, #5 in basketball and #2 in rugby. They take sports very seriously, their men’s city teams are world class and they develop their young athletes through this network. Argentina is a close second, IMOWO.
