He then told me you were 0 for your last 6 in opening games against ranked opponents. Could he be telling the truth?

won't argue or bother to look it up.....Murray was 5-14 versus ranked opponents but you certainly can't blame the offense.

which begs the question if Aaron Murray was good but unsuccessful against ranked opponents but it wasn't his fault but the defense and the season ended with 8 wins... then if he is gone and a career backup takes his place and the only thing to happen to your defense is that you had 4 or 5 (cant remember) guys get kicked off the team...UGA is 0-6 against ranked opponents in the opener...all of this adds up to UGA being really good this year, stomping Clemson in the opener and going on to win the East? I get it now. Thanks for clarifying.

people. In fact, since Van Gorder left the Uga defense has been a bunch of good athletes running around like keystone cops.
Watch the Aub game from last yr, Aubie made them look silly trying to tackle in space.
I do think Pruitt will help that alot, but I doubt if it will be enough in his first game as DC.
From my view, though, Mason is a clear step down from Murray.

Mason is no Murray. He doesn't have the arm strength nor is he nearly as polished mechanically speaking. The thing is he doesn't have to be. The UGA passing offense is predicated off of the run game, so as long as Gurley stays 100% defenses will be forced to stop him first and gameplan for pass defense second. Mason isn't the type of QB that can single-handedly win a game, but he is the type that can be a game manager. One that can distribute the ball to the play makers and let them do the heavy lifting.
As to the defense, the athletes are there, it's just as you said, the fundamentals are not. Simply speaking the UGA defense can take a huge step forward by improving fundamentals.

Sometimes I wonder if fan exchanges like this really are just folks being upset about the lack of performance of key players on their respective teams - like Chubb for UGA and Peters for CU.

Just checked; they were 1-3 the last 4 years. They won 4 in a row before that. In fact, this was the worst run of
bowl losses since the '70's. The defense seems to have really hurt the puppies there!

Yeah - but the UGA D is going to be #1 in the nation now that Pruitt just walked in. All that talent on D is going to be impossible to score against. Even their walk-ons should be rated 5-stars since Pruitt will make them instant supermen. Pruitt is a god among DC's and the world should bow down and show respect.
