UGA keeps comparing their situation with Clemson's in 2015

Jan 9, 2018, 10:29 AM

ANd i hear they'll be back next year and will possibly do what clemson did and beat them next time. Problem is.. you are going to have to beat Bama to get to the playoff every year in most years. This year was an anomaly. Which i'm guessing is what they're referring to. B/c they ain't facing Bama in the championship next year. Two SEC teams every year won't be the norm.

I agree they'll be good every year for a while but this was about as good as it gets for UGA. they were up 13 with 2 qtrs left and lost it. Bama will probably be better with Tua scoring points every game next year. Its gonna be tough all round for us all.

In 2020 maybe. Crap, that weird typing that date.

Where are you getting this "31 seniors?" I only see 16.

That got spread from an ESPN twitter post or something.

It was bad information from the start because they included non-scholarship SRs for Georgia, but not the other playoff teams.

"Does this hurt? You bet your ### it does. And I’m not going to be the guy who tells you that Georgia’s going to be right back here next year. The ‘Dawgs lose 31 seniors and that’s a lot of leadership out the door. But there’s also a temptation to believe that players are irreplaceable, and there are very few truly irreplaceable players. Which is to say that Georgia may in fact reload in 2018. Or our injury luck may regress to the mean and we may finish 9-3. But no matter what it’s pretty hard to argue that this Georgia team isn’t an entirely new creature compared to what it was in 2015. I’m not saying Georgia’s going to win a national championship in 2018. But I like our odds about as well as anyone’s. Georgia fans have a lot to look forward to. We hope you’ll look forward to it with us here at Dawg Sports."

They have 24 seniors on their full roster.

However, losing 16 out of your 2 deep is a huge loss. That is around 36%.

Bama has found a better formula by losing to Auburn.***

beaten tOSU in the B1G Championship game, then the game last night doesn't happen. Those are just 2 of many examples that shaped the playoff. That's what makes the 4-team playoff so great...the national championship can be decided by a couple regular season plays.

Big difference between Clemson 2015 and UGA 2017

Jan 9, 2018, 11:15 AM

first and foremost we were getting pretty much all of our offensive talent back PLUS a future 1st rounder in Mike Williams. We were losing a bunch on D going from 2015 to 2016

UGA loses both running backs, a couple of OL and their most productive WR. They've got talent to replace it, but basically the only tested talent they have coming back is Fromm and Hardeman.

They lose 7 on D.

And that doesn't even include Jrs that might leave early like Smith.

UGA 2017 is more similar to Clemson 2016.

I fully expect UGA to take a step back next year. They have upgraded the talent on paper, but this is a bridge year between Richts players and Smarts. They will still run away with the East. Their window is 2019-2020.
