Another gem from FGF
Nov 2, 2015, 1:56 PM
|
|
Was looking on FGF to see what their opinion of coaches were now that 2 more better jobs than SC have become available (I have USC, VT, Miami, Maryland, Minnesota, and UCF as better jobs) and found this gem comparing Clemson's road schedule to theirs. They are stating that we play teams with more losses while they've played teams with more wins. The problem is we have them on the road, which skews it, and they are counting the wins the teams got by beating them and the losses the teams got from us beating them. If you remove those losses we gave those teams and the wins their opponents got for beating them, it looks vastly different.

Basically USuC may be the best coaching job going if you decide to retire from there. Heck, you could quit on your team in the middle of the season and still get $4 million a year for the remainder of your contract. That's like starting a job with a multiple year leave plan. Who wouldn't want to coach there. Well except anyone with morals. Go Tigers.

places that springboard coaches either.
Jimmy Johnson IMO was an outlier. Otherwise, they are all equally crappy in terms of where coaches go next. Heck, Clemson is too.

Clemson is infinitely better than SCAR for coach's future

almost every former Clemson coach has gone on to coach somewhere else, maybe not a better job, but A JOB. Not an end-of-career graveyard.
Charley Pell - Florida Danny Ford - Arkansas Ken Hatfield - Rice Tommy West - Memphis Tommy Bowden - **BUZZ**
SCAR......
I think Sparky Woods may have EVENTUALLY coached at VMI or somewhere, after a decade or so. everyone else.....**BUZZ**

Minnesota may not be better, but Maryland has the money and is upgrading facilities as well as strong ties to Underarmor, and UCF is in a recruiting hotbed and have easy competition.

UMd's AD is severely in the red. That's the biggest reason they moved to the B1G.

phs1721: Don't worry, one of their own points it out: "Your post is basically supported by the fact Columbia had the worst rain storm in its history. If it wasn't for that LSU wouldn't be on your list. So our true road game opponents are 19-13. Now take into account 3 of those wins came against us so it's 16-13 without that. Now Clemson road schedule you have to look at 3 of those team losses came against Clemson so they are 20-17 without those losses.
Clemson doesn't play in the SEC. The SEC is better then the ACC. That's a fact, but it doesn't take away from our rival being a good team and no stats you try to come up with will change that. We just need to get better and make a good hire cause they have it working up there. We need to improve on our end and quit worry about them and trying to make it look like they are not as good as they really are"

If I was ranking those jobs...
Nov 2, 2015, 2:14 PM
|
|
1. VT 2. Miami 2b. South Carolina 3. Maryland 4. Minnesota 5. UCF
VT is the best of the bunch and I have Miami/SC as equals primarily bc the only advantage Miami has is recruiting base, but SC is a better job on all other factors (IMO). Besides, you can recruit at a high level at SC.

Miami used to be a good job but most of the good coaches available would probably turn it down. No fan support. Crappy facilities. Not much money on hand.

because on 11/28, regardless of respective opponents or the record of those opponents, the debate about which team is better (as if there is any real debate) will be settled on the field, and it's entirely possible that Clemson may duplicate if not eclipse the 63-17 beating that was administered back in 2003.

While the LSU game was played at LSU it wasn't truly a road game.
It should've been a home game for them so he shouldn't even factor that into his "results".
Taking LSU out of the equation their road game teams are a combined 19-13, while ours are 20-20 currently.
Also, if you throw out their losses(an easy win for their opponent) and our wins(hard game for our opponent) it goes to 16-13 for them, while ours are 20-17.

He goes on to prove his idiocy(not that I questioned it to begin with) by saying "Vegas would probably give you 7 or 8."
So he thinks usuc is better than FSU?

Thanks Clemson Alumnus, I enjoyed reading this post from FGF. He (she?) reminds me a LOT of a chuckleheaded cousin of mine, who's blood runs garnet and black, and is the epitome of all the coots/haters you could ever have the displeasure of meeting!
HOWEVER, scrolling through the thread's replies and discussion, not only did I actually enjoy it, it reaffirmed my faith in my fellow man/woman. First off, not ALL Carolina fans are as petty - or as snarky as the person who performed this analysis and then posted it. In fact, there were quite a few posts that were not only practical and logical - there were even some compliments for our Tigers in there. Not to mention a fair bit of humor and fun thrown in.
[Classic: Post A: "I say we have about a 2% chance of beating Clemson"; Reply B: "So you're saying we have a chance!" That's just funny right there!]
Anyway, while I know that not all Carolina fans are 'coots' (sic: 'chuckleheads'), it was/is good to see that some of my fellow South Carolinians - who also happen to (unfortunately) be Gamecocks or fans - are actually pragmatic and gracious even amidst the debacle that is the 2015 USC Gamecocks football season. How refreshing to see them in a positive light based upon their reasonable and logical discussion and comments without the vitriole, the excuses and the usual just plain snarky attitudes.
Above all, they are ALWAYS so much easier to take when they're losing!
GO TIGERS!!!
